Hi Gang,
We have a group of 4 coming up, will be there noonish next Saturday. a motley bunch if there ever was one:

Mikie Moschell from Ohio
Clownie Joe (CJ) Mauser from West Virginia
Gene Daul from Milwaukee
Papa Joe Neuville from Wisconsin, via Minneapolis

Who else is heading up? Iowa Gang? Any of you Europeans? East Coasters? Wisonsin folks? Twin Cities guys?

Might as well post the first type of spots you're going to hit, and what you plan to throw.
I am planning to go after the rocks first, with spinnerbaits and Top Raiders. For those who weren't there last year, the money bait was: Blackbird colored Bucher Top Raider, the single tail spinner.

Also good place for last minute questions for those who are going to Sab Bay Lodge for the first time.

Starting to get pumped for this one!

Just got off the phone with Mike. It's cold here. Down in the 30's overnight. Maybe frost in the low lying areas. The wind has been blowing pretty hard. The sun is finally out this evening. Wind has died down some. Muskie fishing was pretty good prior to this last cold front. Weather should stabilize over the weekend and hopefully the muskies will put on the feed bag again. Mike said he'd call me to find out conditions mid-week. I'll post it on the site for everyone about Wednesday. Better pack your longjohns.

Jonesi,
let's do that. We should shoot for Tueday/Wednesday afternoon, lunch and some beers. Some of us rookies on LOTW are better off with the run during light hours.

Anyplace we can dock and walk to over there? I'll work on Mikie and Mauser.

Thanks,
Papa Joe

Hey fellas,

Getting a list together of things to bring up...unfortunately my boat wont be on my list. I am gonna have to rent a boat from the lodge. They look fairly nice, but was wondering if anyone knows what kind of electronics they have on them. Im thinking of taking the Sidefinder and Lowrance off of my boat and making up a few temp mounts to put them on the lodge boat. If they are well equipped, then I wont worry about it. Any recommendations as far as a lake map for LOTW? I have the hotspots map, but I am looking for something a little more in depth....It will be my first time on a really large body of water, and after some of the horror stories I have heard about people taking out motors, I want to make sure I know where I am. Im probably being a little paranoid, and Im sure you guys will all be willing to help out when we get up there, but I figure I might as well get a head start. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to meeting everyone up there. Have a good one.

Great news! There is awesome fishing very close to camp. In reality, I shouldn't burn a tank all week, but I'm an idiot and will run by 25 spots to fish a favorite.Learn small sections at a time and USE your map.The Canadian Hydrographic Society has put together a pretty good map, but as water levels fluctuate, hazards become more or less a problem. There will be plenty of info to share that will help as well. Most have been there and are a great source of info.A tip. Take a red sharpie and mark on your map anything 5' or less. Some areas have screamers in the middle of nowhere. Get in the habit of learning and using the same track.Easier obviously with a gps.Tough to learn it all.Should be a great trip. Can't wait! Steve

Does anyone know what the count of people going is at? Do we have the required # of people to get the agreed on rates and if not , will the Lodge still give us that rate. Hate to go all the way to the lodge and find out that I'm short of cash. What will they do, throw me in jail, make me stay on the island and work it off as a guide { I Wish!!!}. Only have about $400 that I've raised for this trip and don't see any more cash in the future for this one. Need to know before I leave as I don't want to be left out of this. Could sell grandkids but the price for them is REAL high!!

Mauser, don't worry about yer money, just get some fish!
Esoxlazer, you should get a Canadian Hydro map, I think they sell them at the boat launch at Morson. Papa Joe used a lodge boat last year and they worked out fine, he did bring his own depth finder and I'd suggest you bring yours just in case. You won't need to traverse big water to find big fish, several good fish were caught right off the island last year. A GPS and compass are essentials, IMHO, but you can arrange to follow other boats, there's enough water for everybody.

I put a post on the Outings board, Bob has offered to meet with us at the lodge to give us a primer on fish, baiits, locations, etc. Let me know and I'll call him back Wednesday.

Also, water levels are up from last year and Bob said they've dropped about a foot and a half in the last week or so. soon. m

Esoxlaser,
The Canadian Hydro maps are usually in stock at Thorne Brothers. I think bringing your electronics is a good idea, since you know them. Sounds like a project though. If I recall correctly I think they had Humminbirds on them.

We rented a lodge boat last year, would be great for 2 guys, we were a little crowded with 3 guys. I can bring a 30lb stick trolling motor to save you renting one, they were $10 extra per day. The lodge will also come to pick you up at Morson, just have the people there call over for you when you stop in to get licenses.

I'm learning a GPS this week, hopefully will have a handle on the dang thing. We had one last year but the dummy who brought it didn't know how to use it. So basically we had just a fancy compass.

Later,
papa joe

Hi rpieske,
Let's think about 5PM on Wednesday. I am pretty sure that would give us time to hang around for a while and still get back to Cedar island before dark.

Anyone esle in for a little pow-wow with the Greens Lodge folks when they open Wednesday Sept 1?

Later,
papa joe
