Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Suffering from massive muskie burnout here (try reading EVERY ONE of the threads on this board 10X a day and you'll get it too) but need to chase some fish (no Dad, not crappies and bluegills again). Hoping to tie into some smallies somewhere near the NW. Burbs of Chicago and will travel as far as 2 hours to get to them. The Big Lake is an option (thinking Kline Harbor), but the weather can easily erase that option. Anyone have lake suggestions for where to chase some smallies (from the 1690Jacuzzi) that is within 2hrs. of my house (Arlington Heights), wont be TOO nutty crowded by 11AM, and has an accessable smallie population?
And yes this is a muskie related topic, because if I chase Chicago Metro Muskies again this weekend, you all lose a moderator from total muskie burnout....though some of you, probably many of you, would like it to be so. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Hey Man, Rock Lake in Lake Mills will be nutso after 11 AM, but is great fishing up until that time. Big largemouth and Smallmouth, just fish the outside edge of the weedlines that rim the lake and the humps in the center. Jigs with plastics and spinnerbaits will get them in the boat.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | No vacation. Take away my moderating permissions and I'll just fight it out with the "users" (nicest adjective I could think of) whose posts I cant delete. Remember when I used to fight it out with people? Ahhhh the days of fun.
The Blind Squirrell is in permanent hibernation til the Tailless Beaver comes back from his far away den in the land of danger and the One-Legged Duck takes a break from fathering his many many many ducklings.
I will bass fish this weekend, but no vacation or I'll make the Naked Monkey make an appearance when he visits the O1st Bed and Breakfast. |

We will fish again soon, and I assure you, once Sept 1st rolls around, its all muskies til we find ourselves out on a lake with 34 degree water temps with 30mph winds with 16 degree air temps, not counting windchill of course. I will never forget water freezing to my jacket 5 seconds after landing on it. |

That's where the Bassmasters Classic was. All smallies along the breakwall outside the harbor.
Do some research and I'm sure you can find out exactly where Woo Daves was when he won it.

| Anyone noticed that EVERY bass is extended out to the camera, at least a forearms length away from the body!!!
Slammr, go north to Belvidere, borrow a canoe, take two cars, and hit the river there, great smallmouth fishing available. Up to 3 lbs normally, second half of August to mid September can be great fishing if the water conditions are stable. You will find several fish at once when you pick them out. Spinning with jigs and twister tails, rapalas, and #3 silver or bronze blade french spinners will pretty much cover baits. A lucky 13 is also a good bet at the tail of pools. Use a crankbait and you may pick up a walleye or northern to go with the SM and rock bass. |

There would'nt be a bend if they were extending the fish out. The pic right before mine is a good example of a guide's pose...the rest are somewhat normal poses. |

Although I have heard the smallie bite has been a little tough on Mendota then normal...still the best place in southern WI to catch an 18 incher!
No big largemouths in Madison either!

| Slamr, congratulations on the girlfriend, and great smallmouth fishing is all around us. Try lake Michigan out of Portage IN early morning for some great smallmouth. Or trek up to Southern WI lakes (Geneva and Delavan) and rivers. I fish the Galena River up near my family farm in Shullsburg WI, always great smallmouth action with lots of public access.

Location: Elgin, IL | Good call on the Kishwaukee River. An hour drive from the NW 'Burbs to the Kirkland/Belvidere area. Wading or canoing both work. Small cranks and minnow baits (and topwater this time of year) work well. Grew up fishing the Kish west of Kirkland.
Caught a 21 inch smallie out of there with a crayfish imitation crank once. Also used to catch creek chubs in Owens Creek in the morning and then float em through the deep pockets. Had days in the fall where I'd catch half a dozen pike and smallies, a couple largemouth, and a few rockbass before noon. Then I'd stagger out of the river, pull the shotgun out of the car, and walk up a few pheasants along the fencerows. Those were the days!

Location: Montgomery,Illinois | SMALLIES.....my first love..... the Fox and Kankakee are awesome but dont think ur gonna get a boat on either of them.......if u want to wade i can put u on some fish otherwise Lake geneva is excellent but crowded by 11 as said before u would be better off fishing later like 5pm til dark otherwise real early til like 10am but besides that i know a guy that fishes tourneys on The big pond and he said he had his best day last week but i dont know where he fishes I just know hes fishing deeper.......If you have any questions about geneva or the rivers let me know....

Location: oswego, il | Slamr, for smallies, try lake geneva, heideke, lasalle or the wisconsin river around the dells area. If you are looking for some large mouth, try silver, lake geneva, beulah, ealge spring/lulu(action bassin) and eagle in racine. Pm me I can think of a frew more good ones. |
