Fished Webster today, AND BOY WAS IT TOUGH!!!! Very little activity from my boat as well as the other boats I talked to.
I did manage to boat a 34 incher on a chrome Super Shad Rap in 6 feet of water in front of the condos in Echo Bay.
Water temps were in the mid to upper 70, visiblity is getting better, with a few feet visiblity. I lost a fish, never saw the size on a jailbird Suick, had 2 blow ups on the Weagle, and caught the one on the Super Shad Rap. As you can see, I was throwing everything trying to find something these crazy fish wanted!
14 hours on the water: 6:30 am - 8:30 pm, and one little 34 incher. O weill that's musky fishing!!! With the cold front moving in, the muskies have their head buried in the "grass" weeds and you have to beat them to death to get a active one! All fish caught today by myself and other anglers were caught in 8 feet and less.
I will be out on Tippy tomorrow, August 6. Hopefully tomorrow goes better than today!
Aug. 6
Temps: mid to upper 70's
Visibility: Still a little green, but getting a little bit clearer everyday.
Baitfish in 15-27 feet of water
Fished Tippy for must of the day with once again, VERY LITTLE ACTION! Fished all of my favorite spots and not a single follow!!!
I broke down and started to troll around 4:00. I went to the south shore since the wind was blowing in all day, and finally got a rip in 26 feet of water. 10 inch Purple Jake. The fish hit, came flying out of the water, I grabbed the rod, and she went airborn again and threw the Jake. I was about ready to melt down.
I went into James around 5:45, and finally at 7:40 a 41 incher wacked the Weagle! 2 guys from Chicago that I have been helping out were about a cast away so thanks to Mike and Ron I got a decent photo! Thanks guys!
Fished till around 9:00 with nothing else going! Once again, fished all day for one fish! O well I can't complain to much, a fish a day is betten than getting skunked!!!
I need to get some sleep, I am picking up a guy at 4:30 am Saturday to hit Tippy. I will post a report when I get back.
Aug. 8-9
Water Temps: mid 70's but falling due to cold nights
Fish were mostly all shallow, 6-9 feet
Topwaters and glide baits once again......
On Sunday the 8th I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with a great indiana fisherman, Matt Collins from the Chicago area. We started the day off a little after 5:00 am and headed to Tippy. The first spot we went to LOOK SO GOOD and surface activity everywhere!!!! NO MUSKIES!! We then went into James and I managed to miss a fish on a Weagle in 7 feet of water. A little further down the east shore, I had a low 40's follow on a grey ghost, and then caught a shortie 31 incher on the same grey ghost. We saw a few other fish, but nothing to crazy so we headed to Webster after a lunch/dinner break.
Fished webster till dark, and 6 fish blow up on topwaters, and boated ZERO!!! O well, that's musky fishing. Matt was working the Jackpot and I was throwing the weagle. Both of us had fish on, but came off just as fast as they hit. THEY NEED TO LEARN TO CRUSH THE BAITS ALL THE TIME!! We fished till around 9:00 pm and called it quites, another day of should of's and could of's. O well, me and Matt had fun fishing together.
On Monday I got for only a little over 6 hours. I was on the water a little after 5 and fished till a little after 12:00 pm. I had 3 blow ups on topwater and lost one a grey ghost. Total of 6 fish to the boat, 2 in the 40 inch range. I had to get off the water to finish my school work, I can't believe I will be back teaching in less than 10 days!!!!!!!!! Summmer has cruised right by!!
I'll be back out there tomorrow, good luck guys! |
