Hello,

I made some bucktails this past winter. Just for fun. I raised quite a few fish on LOTW and caught my first two on them. That was pretty neat, catching fish on one of your own baits.
I pretty much copied G. Wahl's Eagletails. I used heavy .063 gauge wire and big fluted blades.
My blades seem to kick start a bit easier. The one problem I've had is finding a good source for bucktails. Most of the local places sell tails with pretty short hair for the most part. Stamina tails haven't been real great either. I noticed the hair on George Wahl's tails is really
long. Any ideas where I can get some like that? Thanks for any help.

The very best place is right in a store that carries them.
I've ordered from several sources, and have been happy and sad with the same shipment.
I get them from Reinke Brothers here in Milwaukee. People think that I'm nuts, but I will pull all of one color off of the peg and sit in the corner and pick out two or three. Sometimes I'll go through a whole lot of one color and "reject" them all.
Best way to get what you want is to find a place near you that handles them and pick them by hand.
I've had good luck with Moores Lures, when I explained to him that I wanted bucktails for muskie lures and wanted the longest ones that he had. He was willing to do it, but I don't think that it's and every day occurance.
Cabelas...hit or miss.
www.barlows.com...also hit or miss, but you get to talk to someone at the store and ask for the long ones.....no guarantee.
Sometimes you get stuck with a lot of useless hair no matter what you do, short of picking them out yourself.
Call Reinke Bros and tell them what you are looking for. Make sure you tell them Beaver sent you. You'll either get great service or they'll hang up on you. 414-383-5591
