I spent quite a bit of money this fall purchasing a couple glass/graphite rods to fish ski's in the cold weather. I was under the impression graphite could break under severe cold temp's. I'm just starting to get into ice fishing and have been looking at jigging/spinning combo's. So far all I have found is graphite.. What gives? Is there a difference, does someone make a glass ice fish pole and I'm not looking in the right place? Thanks much

The fact is graphite is more sensitive and you need that to feel gills suck your tear drop in. And you are doing nothing more then a quick lift of the rod to set the hook when ice fishing.

When cold water muskie fishing you tend to set hooks harder, like with quick sets.. When its 13 degrees,, they will break.

For ice fishing I use Thorne Bros rods from the Twin Cites and Tommarow river rods from the Wapacka area.. I found these to be the best jigging sticks out there for great balance and sensitivity.

Bad dog Makes a very nice glass rod of which I have a couple, one for noodling pannies, and one for deadsticking 'eyes. Thorne Brothers also makes a nice glass series. I like glass rods for their flexibility, especially in deadstick situations, but as Jason said, most times it is sensitivity we are looking for.

My ice fishing rods are as follows:
7ft st. croix bucktail rod
6.5ft st. croix cranking rod
6.2ft st. croix jerkbait rod
4 garcia trolling/sucker rods

Stop with the ice talk. I ain't giving up. I ain't giving up. I ain't giving up. I ain't giving up. I ain't giving up. I ain't giving up.......
