Location: Holly, MI | I just bought a RayMarine vhf. Don't cheat yourself with a small or cheap antenna, especially if you want some range for bigger lakes. Mount it with the fold down (ratcheting) mount and lay it flat while casting if you need to. I have mine mounted to my center console and don't find it to be in the way from the front or back of the boat. |

| I'd buy the Uniden Oceanus again for my next boat. Mine works great. Don't skimp on the antenna. I got the Shakespeare Galaxy 5225-XT. Great distance, and clear as a bell. |

Location: Willoughby, Ohio | I have a Standard Horizon that I have been very pleased with. You might be able to shop around and find a previous year's model for less money than the latest & greatest.
It is absolutely correct that a good quality antenna is critical to proper radio performance. The antenna is probably more important than the radio itself. |
