While wading in the creek below a local mukie lake i noticed what appeared to be a sick muskie facing upstream next to some weeds as i got closer i could see its eyes were literally popping out of its head! the fish let me get very close so i just stared at its deformity. Its eyes seemed about an inch or two out of its head and seemed very white and diseased. When i went to pick it up it took off downstream. Has anyone heard of this before?? Could this be a disease???

Yes, it's a disease. It could be one of several, but it sounds like a fungal problem. My aquarium fish need to be treated for that now and again. If I don't treat the problem, I lose the fish.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think if this muskie were caught or any with a disease as such it should be kept out of the system or released? Would this disease be contagious to other health muskie?

It's a matter of the fish's ability to resist infection. I would guess this one was either weakened by age or another factor. I wouldn't think the fish would be a threat to healthy muskies in the system.
