Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Mid August should be topwater time there, and its the middle of the weed to rock migration for the big girls. BUT, it was a late spawn, so they might still be in the weeds.
I've fished that area quite a bit and here's the baits I would be throwing.
-topraider (black)
-creeper after big follows
-weagle/jackpot/top prey for side to side topwaters
-10" jake in black/gold or tenn. shad
-black tailed bucktails with orange or chart. blades (dark days)
-bright colored tails (bright days)
-Mag Dawgs in walleye or black/orange.
Hope that helps a bit. |

| Todd,
Is there an access in the area or do you motor down from Vermillion Bay?
Thanks,

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | There is a boat launch into Vermillion Bay, off of 17, go left at the big gorilla.....no joke there. With a 50hp motor in my boat, I would estimate I could get to Iowa Bay (all farthest reaches of the Western Arm) in maybe 25-35 minutes? I would recommend the same baits down that way that I did earlier in this thread. |

| Slamr,
I am actually staying at Eagle Lake Sportsmans Lodge in Sportsmans Bay. (I am camping there with the whole family). We will be there Aug 14-22, and I am pretty psyched. I really appreciate all your responses. I have been finding it difficult to learn much about Musky fishing on this area of Eagle. I tend to get real research oriented before a trip like this and it hasn't been easy. I don't really know if I will get a chance to return to Eagle so i want to make the most of the week I have there.
Thanks again ToddM and Slamr,
Steve |

| rookie,
don't think too much and keep it simple: points, midlake humps and reefs, and small coves with slop very close to open water..doesn't matter where on the lake you are...sorry, forgot to mention walls too. |

Location: Madtown, WI | West arm can be TOUGHHHHH!!!! This is not beginner water. August stick with rocks...check out the weeds but rocks will be the ticket I bet. If your looking for some action drive over to the indian chain...if your looking for a fish of a life time...hit the west arm. The fish down there will make your legs buckle...I have seen them up to 56-57 inches down there..You probably won't get multiple fish for the week...but if you get one chances are it will be purdy nice....
Slmr's list was pretty good...don't overlook bright baits...I mean BRIGHT...some reason at times they love them.
Best of luck!!

Slamr,
what do you think of a large black or orange and black spotted hog wabbler as a throw back instead of the creeper? (don't have a creeper)
Also, on the Jake the tennessee shad you refer to I think is a holoform?
Finally, bucktails and bright days: White with nickle blade what you have in mind? Other colors/combos?
Thanks,
Steve |
