Subject: Need help finding muskie on Vermilion

Have only fished the lake once and am going again in September with a group looking for muskie. We had trouble finding them last year and would like some help about where to fish and what to use. We're staying in Everette Bay so primarily the east end and maybe toward the center of the lake. Any advice will be appreciated. I know there's a Simply Fishing tourney going on later in the week we're there but we'll be fishing during the tourney's "no fish" days - Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully that means we'll have the lake to ourselves.

Stick around Big Bay. Start with Ely Island- fish deeper rock structure off island points- That time of year begin trolling- I like 10" jakes-
other areas to try:
rock complexes off Spider Island (think thats one), Jackrabbit Island, area north of Ely with about three rockpiles close together- water is 40 foot deep off these structures- fish that deep water too! Some my fav lures on BV are DDD, big eagletail, and those #*^@ b-dawgs
Don't be afraid to wing that lure in 3 foot of water on those main lake structures.
Mostly rock dude
WORDS OF WISDOM: Fish deep and keep that line wet

forgot rock structure of Potato also- actually any Big Bay rock with the depth to back it up

If you get ballzy and go to west side troll niles and wakemup - squirelly jake usually gets it going

Just had a friend return from Big V last weekend - had the trip of his lifetime. He boated a 50.5", a 51" and a 42". Also lost at the side of the boat an estimated 40" and 45". I read a couple of local reports and it sounds like everyone did pretty well last weekend. Can't wait until September when I go.

A couple of great guides on the east are:
Tom Wehler
Terry Sjogren
They will put you on fish and improve your knowledge of the lake.
