Location: Willoughby, Ohio | I also posted this on the Muskie Hunter board. My apologies if you've already seen it there!
Like many Ohio muskie fishermen, I mostly spend my time trolling. For the times that I would cast, I'd use a PM70MHF. I'm now looking to do a bit more casting and am trying to decide on a second casting rod. I'm guessing one rod for crankbaits & bucktails and another for jerkbaits and perhaps creatures like Bulldawgs. I've had good luck with St Croix rods so I'll likely stick with them. My question is, what should I consider as a second rod? Should I look to go heavier and/or longer or go with a shorter rod? I'm a big, tall (6'6" ) guy, so handling longer rods isn't an issue.
Thanks for any help!

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Here is my line-up of St Croix rods all Premiers
6-9" A very stout rod, I use it with all my Jerks, Some Cranks and Bull Dawgs
7' A good light bucktail rod
7'6" Probably the best all around rod. I have multiple 7'6". I work Big Bucktails, TopWater, Some Jerks, Cranks, and bull dawgs on these rods. If you don't have one you need one.
8' This is my best small bait rod. It is an awesome bucktail stick, especially in the spring with smaller stuff, but I throw the big Mepps Marabous with it too. Also works good for small twitch baits. |

| I agree with Norm!
The PM76MHF 7'6" is simply the BEST all around rod. Only thing I don't use it for is very large jerks and magnum Bulldawgs.

| As a devout custom rod man, I must agree with my cohorts. In the St.Croix line, that rod is the bomb. Steve |

Location: Illinois-Indiana | The 7'6" is the best "ALL AROUND" stick from St. Croix.
With you being tall I would recomend the 8' heavy, you can cast Mag Dawgs and big cranks all day long with this rod. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Here's my line-up and you'll see I dont own a 7-6"
6-0' Heavy Avid and Premier
6-9" Heavy Premier
7-0' MH Avid
7-10" MH Premier
8-0' Heavy and MH Avid and Premier
Because I'm short (between 5-8" and 5-9") I like using the shorter, but heavier rods for gliders, Jerks and deep cranks get the 6-9" and everything else is the 8' sticks. The best rod I own, in my opinion, is the new 8' Avid heavy..there is nothing you can't toss with that stick at a 6 oz rating.
I'd have to say the 7-6 Avid would be the best all around stick St.Croix makes.

Location: Woodstock, IL | Here is my inventory:
6'9" Heavy Premier (jerk bait rod)
7'0" MH Avid (good bucktail rod, although I wish I had the 7'6")
7'0" XH graphite/glass hybird (suckers)
7'6" Heavy Avid (great crank rod, but can be used for just about anything)
I would recommend either the 7 or 7'6" MH avid for all around use. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | PG......if the 7-10 Avid is anything like the Premier, it's too #*^@ whippy and you really have to pump to get hooksets, that's the only rod I'm not sold on yet. I had a 45" on a bucktail right next to the boat about a month ago, The fish just sat there with the bait in his mouth...I tried and tried to snap the hooks into his grill...could'nt do it..the 7-10" just kept bending...nothing felt solid. |
