| Well I got me one and it lasted all of about 5 casts. Then it froze up You could depress the button all the way down, but the spool is "locked". The only way to get the spool to spin is to back the drag all the way off. Needless to say is going back. Question is what is the quality of these reels for $120. Tomcat, any suggetions where to pick up old 7000's? |

Location: Twin Cities | Contact Abu directly. I've had nothing but great Customer service from them. They would probably like to know if there is a fundamental design flaw or a bad seed... |

| My 7000 C3's are bullett proof, but I had that problem recently on a 6500...You just bought it, so take it back for a refund, and pick up an older 7000 on ebay or some other site like that!

| Thanks guys!!!
Tomcat,
It was the HSN (High speed narrow). It was the only 7000 they had left at Reeds in Brainerd or Walker. Didn't actually go to Walker, but one of the burnouts told he "thought" they were out of the black ones. Anyway thanks for those links, looks like I got some work to do!

| Komer, i saw about 10 little bait stores around the little towns kathy and cruised around. stop in those once in awhile and see if they have any 7000's still (they would be the ones w/ older stock).
I can't believe old Burnie gave you some good info...
i'll back w/ muskyboy steve, the 7000 C3 is a great reel. fish circles around almost any 6000 series.

Location: In the slop! | Here is a tip for 7000's, if it says "Made in Sweden" on the left side plate, it probably is a good reel. If it says "Assembled in Sweden" or nothing at all, be skeptical. IMHO Abu's quality took a serious hit about three years ago. I use 7000's about 90% of the time, but will never buy another new one. Good luck in the search for an older model, Mike Jensen. |

Location: Monee, Illinois | To tell you the truth I use the 6500 C4 all the time. I just picked up a new one from my local tackle shop (Fishing Connection in Tinley Park) $84 out the door, that makes 6 total now. I have not had a problem yet with them. I am glad you all talked about the 7000 because I almost walked out with one of those today. I really like the 6500 C4 and will stick with those until I find something better. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind spending money since all my bass and musky rods are St Croix Avid rods. If I was looking for a new reel brand and type what would you guys recommend?????

| Dude, just checked...OUT...did you get the 7000HSN? Some of the peeps here sling metal w/ them and have had no probs as of yet(3-6oz. Stingers) that I know of. Good luck... |

I agree, Made in Sweden is important over Assembled.

| So that's where it went! You'll love the upgrade fer sure Tomster. 420, I'd see if this is an ongoing problem and get me cash back if possible. I love the Diawa CWZ300A, but keeping it salt free is a pain. Hope you get it straightened out... |

| B420,
Oh yeah.....stay away from those Gold 7000's....they are junk. This is what you want. Here is the "International" line of the 7000's.....I've never owned one, but I do have the 6500CS Rocket and the 6500CS MAG....both are from the Abu "International" line of reels....The two 6500's I have, are WAY better than any 6500C3 or 6500C4 that you can buy. So, I'm assuming that the 7000CS Rocket "International" is also super high quality.

They usually have the hardcore 7000 Big Game (all black) like Toenail's on ebay....but right now, I can't find any. They are the best 7000 that I've ever used.....but the 7000CS Rocket may be just as good....or better.

Location: London, England | You might want to try slackening the screws on the gearbox side of the reel a little (the slot headed ones not the knurled ones that hold the sideplate on) as I have noticed that if they are over tightened it can stop the reel from re-engaging. Worth a try before you send it back. |

| Tim,
Thank for the advice, will give it a try. Like I said I had 5 good casts then boom, no freespool or casts anymore! |

| PgaSchulz:
I'm surprised you have had good luck with 6500 C4's..I've had nothing but trouble with the 2 I have and a similiar 6500 Ultracast...the spring inside the pops the bail button back up is constantly going bad...so at the end of your cast the reel doesn't engage! not fun...I am dumping them and going to at least one 7000 Big Game and maybe another Tica Caiman.
I have 5 Morrums and LOVE those as well.

Location: Monee, Illinois | Thanks for the advise I have had alot of luck so far with the 6500 C4. I do clean them after every time I use them and I re-spool the line every 2 months. I may just be lucky but I am going to start looking into the 7000.
Thanks,

| Well returned my reel and went with the same one to see if I got a lemon. The new one worked great all weekend throwin large funky chickens, and other large spinners and bucktails. Happy with it for now!
