| For those of you that don't think the Chain holds big fish, I just got an e-mail from Muskypipo. Steve Hulyk caught a 50&1/2 inch fish there yesterday. Nice looking fish. If I knew how to cut and paste, I would post the picture. If someone knows how, e-mail me at [email protected] I will send you the picture for you to post. |

| Congrats on the hog! That right around the anniversity of my fox ski..There is no doubt if you have the patience for other boaters the chain can reward you. That's the biggest I've seen. Actually it looks alot like the one I caught last year July 3 but bigger. Same scare near the tail.....I wonder.
FOX CHAIN THE BEST 4TH OF JULY WATERS:)

| Those two fish look quite similar. Maybe it's just me but if you look at the gill plate there's a black blotch on the 50 1/2 from this year and the other fish from last year. Also, the bruise near last year's fish looks similar. On this year's it's a little bigger but that could be because it's gotten worse over time. Same place as well. In any case, nice catch! |

| The gill scar is the key... I caught her at 49 3/4 no tail pinch. Did he pinch the tail? Just want to see the growth rate. She's also moved to a different lake I see.

Location: Algonquin, ILL | Both are nice and I think they are the same fish juding by the markings and the backgrounds appear to be in the same area just a slightly different angle, if they are different fish that would make three that size that I know of out of the chain which is pretty good for a toilet bowl

Location: Chicago, IL | Wow, feels good to be back! Been busy with work and checked today to see some posts. Well the chain has been putting up some bigger fish and they are thick. The white bass are back and the Muskies are obviously chowing down on them. I know in my boat in the past month we have a 46",44" & 41.5" and I know of another 46" and 44" being caught recently also. Steve Hulyk who got the 50.5" also has a 47" and a 44.5". I'm attaching a pic of the fish we got today, a thick 46", my fathers personal best.

| Congrats to Steve On the great catch and release. The 50" mark has been eluding anglers on the main lakes of the Chain for years. The 50" potential has been there for many years. My friend and chain guide Sean Birmingham Caught and released a 48" fish back in 1995. 9 years ago (for those without a calculator). If the chain had a 48 9 years ago then a 50 was most likely swimming around in 97 or so. I also know of 49 caught in 1999 another 49 by Dale Hurd in 2000 and my partner Tom Oson has also come close on several accessions in 2000 and 2001. Interesting note in 2000 the chain was hot for big and multi fish. On one accession Olson caught 5 over 40 in about 3 hours of fishing inc a pair of 46"and another buddy of mine Scott Jenkins had several multi big fish days that year. The chain was also closed for several weeks that spring as well as this year hmmm.
I also think Muskie core's fish is 50"+. Tad called me the next morning he was still shaking I asked if he had pinched the tail? He had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. I explained that the accepted way to measure a fish is to pinch the fork in the tail. So if he did it would no doubt be over 50. I don’t belive it’s the same fish the gill mark is on all muskies and the mark looks like a different shape.
Anyway I am happy to see the 50” Mark fall!! The chase is on for the first 51. Will it ever stop!!
Everyone should take the time to thank the people responsible for the stockings. I’m not sure who started Muskies on the chain but Lenny Szulc SOB Muskies Inc President has done more for the stockings than any one person I know. He has worked with the DNR and the Ill Muskie Alliance to keep up on the stockings. Other ILL Muskie Inc chapters have donated $ for equipment for the Hatcheries as well as purchasing fish. FRV, Chicagoland, South Side,
The SOB’s have already ordered 1500 14”-16” Muskies for delivery this fall. To supplement the DNR’s stocking
The moneys from Membership and fund raisers help fuel the stockings. Please support when you can.
Glad to see people out fishing.and catching
Keith
