Went out on Tonka today. Left all my bait casting rods in the truck. All I had in the boat was my backup trolling setup. So I trolled . Sometime after the first jump and the net my 38" Musky turned into a 33" northern. It's been a bad year so far.

I fished Tonka 7/3 and 7/5 and caught small northerns. One small muskie but lost it next to the boat. Its been really slow so far for me. I hope it picks up soon.

Any part of tonka is good but look for 15' weed lines on the week days. Weekends you have to get up in the weeds to find them. With this goofy weather the rocks are never a bad idea either.

Fish have been pretty shallow for the last few weeks. Although I did catch one right on the break last week, most of the action I've been having has been from the inside edge. Once we get the heatwave I'd move to the outside again.

Inside the weed line is so weedy, what is a good lure to use in there?
I've been fishing the weed line mostly because the weeds are so thick I can't even get a topwater through it.

Try using spinner baits. They are probably the easies bait to work through high weeds. When you do hit weeds, the bait can usually be cleared with a good strong jerk on the rod. On Tonka there are only certain places and times when top water baits work well. Usually the problem with top water is all the floating weeds. The amount of floating weeds dictates when and where I use them.

Good Luck.
