Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I left for Canada a bit late today, but managed to get signed in at Indian Point at about 5 PM. We got our licenses, unpacked, and hit the water at 6 PM. Sue popped a nice pike second cast, one of 11 we boated before a thunderstorm chased us off the water. Norm, that Mepps Mariboo was a hot Pike bait tonight! I lost a fair fish for the Goon, maybe low 40's on a Top Raider. A friend of mine is here from Minnesota. They moved quite a few good fish today and lost 4 on head shakes. Tomorrow is another day!
We had a great fresh fried Northern Pike and Baked Beans dinner, a beer, and whew, I am DONE!
Camp is great!! The hospitality is incredible, and many improvements have been made to Indain Point. Well, the batteries are charging and the mosquitos buzzing, so off to bed so we can hit the water the crack of, oh...about 9 AM tomorrow!!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The internet connection here was down last night, so I was a bit delayed in reporting! A HUGE cold front went through yesterday, driving water temps down 9 degrees, and creating winds to 30 miles per hour. We fished hard, and put several big Pike and Smallmouth in the boat. I had a true heartbreaker of an experience, will let Sue tell that story tonight.
Ran into Tim McCormick, he had 5 muskies in 3 days, all in the mid 40" class. He had not moved a pig yet, but the water temps 4 days ago were 50's, then 68 when I got here, and 57 this morning. We need some warm weather!! Tomorrow looks good, maybe the weather will improve.
My friends from Bemidji, Hopper, was up for three days. They lost several, one was a really good fish but not a pig. They were pretty frustrated, but happy with the action until the blasting cold front.
Well, out on the water!!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We had a great day today, putting two muskies in the net and 4 Pike from 31 to 34". Sue and I each caught a bass, and had a great time working reefs with crank baits. Dinner was smallmouth and pike, rice, and veggies.
We moved four other muskies, one was a good one, even for the Goon. All were on topwater, so those of you coming up, get ready, you are hitting this absolutley perfect. Water temps by afternoon were 65 degrees, and all the muskies came from less than 2' of water.
Tomorrow we are going after walleyes in the morning, should be a very good time. Muskies in the afternoon to dark, which will give us 10 hours, plenty of time to stick a pig.

Location: Northwoods | Just have to add my "5 cents"...yesterday was cold and wet but while in yacht club bay while Steve was throwing a Wabull (Cady, you've started a craze...he is relentless with this bait!!) the water began to wake and a Northern/Jack surfaced after the Wobble swiping it and then diving, but its side girth had to be at least 10 to 12 inches deep, the fish was at least 50", it hit, was stuck for just a few seconds, and was gone...Loch Nes of Wabagoon?!?! Whoa. Needless to say we have been back twice in one day.
This has been an awesome trip so far, exceeding last year by a long shot. However, today we dedicate the efforts and experiences enjoyed by us both to Kevin Worrall (2/14/80 - 7/05/91) -- We were thinking of you Buddy!
Thats all for now...Szq

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We went walleye fishing as planned until late afternoon, and had a blast. We worked hard for the walleyes, but caught some nice fish, which are broiling now! Then we hit the Muskies, and moved 7, 2 were PIGGIES. All the muskies we moved were on Weagles, only one ate, and she managed to spit the bait almost immediately. We have some great targets now, and a pretty good milk run for the rest of the week. One of the targets is a clean 45# fish, so hopes are high!!
Here are two Weagle fish from today, a 30.25" walleye and a 39.5" Pike. The last picture is one of the 'Eyes we caught this morning.

| Fresh fish and action....sounds like a good time to me. Good to see the water doesn't look like milk this time.
Steve, when did you start that "Ron Lindner" look?
A little grey makes us old farts look a little distinguished, don't you think?
Have a great time. We'll be looking for some piggie pictures.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Today was a 'take it easy day' for Sue and I. We hit the water about 10AM, ran the milk run, and moved 2 of the 6 we saw yesterday, and 2 new fish. No takers, but the big girl blew water all over my Weagle. We caught no less than 20 big pike, and were in for the Indian Point Camp free fish fry by 6. The food was terrific, and the hospitality great. I won a hat in the drawing, and Sue won some Canadian Beaver Droppings candy. Seriously!
Here are some shots from today. My Weagle is getting so chewed up it's hard to tell what color it was...
There was a regatta today out of the Yaht Club, pretty neat to see the big boats race.

| I would like to join those complaining about the pictures. Jealousy and envy, pure jealousy and envy.
I was looking at the water color in these photos. I don't mind it a bit but I would never put on a glide bait in this type of water. I would be afraid of missing too many fish that I would think I could call from further out with a pull bait, surface bait, crankbait or bucktail/spinner. I fish that water down here often enough to feel like I WANT SOME TURBULENCE. Oh well, just my theory and they are a lot like noses and other body parts.
Once again, quit publishing pictures and please, please do not put up the pics when they pop the 50+ inchers, those are particularly hurtful. If you have to show fish it would make us all feel better if they were wormy hammerhandles or cigar walleyes...

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | FSF, this water is a hoot. The gliders I am throwing are the Wabull and the Slip Slider, and an Undertaker now and again. I actually am popping the top with them, raising all sorts of noise. We are fishing very heavy weeds most of the time, so I'm walking the bait across the top, popping it down in the pockets, and walking it along; you get the picture. Surface baits were hot today for big pike, but the muskies ignored them. I lost 4 (dammit, yes, FOUR) today on spinnerbaits, a fluke and frustratiing as can be. Sue and I worked new water all day running several miles to the South and then the North after lunch, leaving the Milk Run fish for tomorrow and covering water to scout for the Outing next week. We moved 9 muskies, none much under 40" and none much over 48". I would have been happy as heck with any of them in the net, but oh well! We caught 23 pike over 30" today, with Sue's personal best 37" the biggest. I had a muskie charge a fouled spinnerbait that was all wrapped up in the line, and eat the thing at boatside, line, leader, and all. I lost the fish. Sheesh.
We got out about 10AM, came in for lunch at 3, and went back out at 4:15. We fished bass some, and Sue got her personal best, a 20" smallmouth. She also got her personal best Pike today on a topwater, so we had a great day on the water! We found good water for the guys coming up, and talked to a couple other anglers out there who had about the same success as we did. One fellow boated one in the mid 40's, and lost a big fish on a jump.
Tomorrow looks great, warm and a chance of rain. We will get out on the water sometime in the morning, that's for sure.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Well, the weather was a bit weird today, to say the least. We woke to a steady rain and wind, and hit the water despite the fact it was miserable. Nothing going in the favorite haunts, so we came in and went to Dryden to stock up for next week. We hit the water early afternoon to a South wind, pretty strong and gusty, and clearing skies. Water temps were upper 60's. We headed for new water, as most of the Milk Run is North shore, and just started fishing when a cloud positioned itself over our heads and cut loose with the most ridiculous rain I have ever been fishing in. That lasted about 1/2 hour, and the skies cleared again with an even stronger SW wind. I opted for new water, as the Milk Run was definitrely out due to very rough water, and guess what, less than an hour later, the skies were clear of any clouds and the wind went dead.
We headed for the Hog pen, and tossed topwater and bucktails. Sue had a real dandy blast her topwater, roll it over itself forward, and swim back into the weeds. I was looking at her bait when the fish hit, it was pretty cool. That was the only active muskie we moved all day, but was worth the trip to see it up close and personal. We will be back there tomorrow, wind allowing. Fish of that quality are the reason I keep pounding this murky old water!
Big Pike were not as regular today until 8 PM when the wind was down. We got 8 between 26" and 34" in less than a half hour fishing one of my favorite muskie spots, all on topwater.
Tomorrow the MuskieFIRST crew arrives, so reports will be from us all from Saturday on. I have to get back and work a couple days, but should be back up mid week.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I are Match fishing today, and wen out at 6 AM. We moved 8 muskies, all good ones, and never got ONE to eat. BIG swirls, then a follow, no matter what we threw at them. One of the 8 I had up 3 times, she missed a Jerko clean, and followed to the boat. Some of the guys are arriving in Camp, so we came in to welcome and orient everyone. We wil be back on the water by 6 or so, I hope. The hospitality here at Indian Point Camp is OUTSTANDING!

We hit the water again for a couple hours, but no muskies showed. Big pike did, which Sue enjoyed. The Crew is in, looks like we will have about 20 here for the week. Slamr will take over reports until I can get back up, which should be Wednesday at the latest. here are some shots from today!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Weather came in early and hit hard with big winds and rain, but the MuskieFIRST crew prevailed. Three rigs went to Eagle, with one 46" to show for the short trip. Wabigoon provided some nice 'eyes for one rig, and Worrall's dinner in Pike. Jonesi moved some nice fish today as did Slamr's rig, so all in all the fishing wasn't terrible despite the weather. Looks like a few days of stable weather, if one can believe the weatherman here. Everyone is having a blast. The Indian Point Camp Free Fish Fry is tomorrow, pictures of fishermen becoming fat (ter) to follow!
Here is a picture of Quinn Kurtz's 44 Topwater fish from yesterday on the Goon, and the front coming in that dropped water temps nearly 10 degrees today.

I'm jealous too cause the only thing I hooked at muskie league last night was my finger (ouch) BUT Andy Krueger got a 41" on Crescent, which keeps us (Christians Bar) in first place. Norm and I were on Manson near Tomahawk as was John S. and Mike, who got an undersized and lost it in the "kahoona net" coming in at 30" - nice try tho. Needless to say Andy did a bit of celebrating and "spreading the wealth" of his reward for big fish at Moonlighting (the place with "free beer tomorrow" Steve) so was a late night for us or morning. whoa.
Slamr moochin the beer . ENJOY!!

Trying to go on trip with Steve in late August for the MuskieFIRST outing. And besides one of us had to be here for muskie league, although never got a hit or even a swirl - only three more weeks left of that.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We had a fair day except for breakdowns, which we figured out. Here are some shots of the day, with some of the fish caught. Jeff and Randy lead with 3 fish, a 46 (second picture, and Eagle lake fish, just minutes from Indian Point Camp), 45, and 40. Slamr moved a piggy, lost her after a brief battle. I'll let him tell of the fish he saw later.
The good folks at Indian Point prepared their signature fish fry for us tonight, and after dinner handed out custom T shirts to every one here. We WILL be back next year!! Several of the Anglers here skipped the dinner to try to stick a fish they had been seeing. More tomorrow..

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Great day, but the Muskies came unpinned for me. Talked to Slamr, he moved two big fish, no takers. Chet got a 40.25" pike with me, I got one close to that, and a 29" walleye to boot. Lost a PIG, story of my life here. Chet saw her later, brought her to the boat, where he stared at the fish and said, " If that fish hits me here, it's pulling me RIGHT into the lake!" Chet has never fished Muskies, so this was quite an experience for him to see fish that size.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Well, I am back in Rhinelander, and feeling badly I had to leave. The big girls were playing, but we just couldn't convert one to the Frabill. Big Pike were tremendous, and big Walleyes were, too. Jeff and Randy took home the Plaque, with 6 muskies in the Ranger.
Jeff and Randy cooked us T Bones or Rib Eyes on the grill Thursday, which were to die for, blessed by a bit of VERY special Tequila. Thanks, guys, it was a pleasure to meet you. Guys, any of you get a chance to fish with these folks, GO. Jeff had that Ranger working the Wabigoon at least 14 hours a day, and found/caught muskies and pike all over the system. These folks are quality sticks, for certain. Jeff/Randy, any time you wish, get up to the Hideout and hit some Rhinelander water.
Chet was a blast to fish with. I will never forget him looking down at that Supertanker and saying, " If that fish hits me this close to the boat, it will pull me in the lake!"
Andrew and I scared the heck out of a couple, but they managed to escape. Sheesh, what a trip.
Quinn and I moved a ton of fish yesterday during a great day on the water, and then went with Mr. Jonesi and moved some more. I had a very nice fish literally inhale a Topraider, turn and rip 2' of drag all in a second, I hit her, and the bait scratched across her teeth and popped out. Wow. Steve got a very nice Pike and had a big girl spook him while cranking a Spinnerbait.
It was a pleasure to spend time with all the guys there. The Indian Point Satff was totally dedicated to making our stay the best possible, and were gracious and pleasant hosts. Thanks to all the folks there. I highly recommend a trip to Indian Point Camp!! I'll be back this year, if I can figure out a way to get that done. I OWE those muskies, big time.
Andrew, thanks for the help with the Outing.
I am building a Photo Album tomorrow that anyone on the trip can add to.

Location: St. Cloud, MN | Well I'm back at home and have had a couple of days to reflect on that final day chasing big fish with Steve W. So here is the story of the final morning that Steve eluded to earlier:
We got on the water at about 9 AM on our second spot I have a large fish (50" class) follow and eat a topraider about twenty five yards from the boat I set the hook feel a rake but don't get any hooks in the fish. Next spot, I have a very large fish nose up and try to eat my topraider like a mayfly as this fishes snout stuck out of the water and misses my bait I saw that it was at least 9"+ across the nose a real shovel. About four reel handle turns later it explodes on the bait doing a full cartwheel. I wait and set but once again come up without the fish. About thirty yards down the spot Steve has another 50"+, 35 pound class fish woof down his suick to the leader and come out of the water. Steve waits for the fish to hit the water sets but his hooks as well do not find a home in the big skis mouth. At the next spot Steve has Penny (A big fish he has been chasing all week, named this because or the shiny copper new penny color of her back) push a large wake all the way to the boat. Penny was the largest fish I saw that morning she was pushing a 8"+ wake as she neared the boat I saw that she was still about ten inches below the surface of the water. By count we saw 9 muskies that morning 5 were 48 or better, including our three hits that could have resulted in 100 pounds of muskies. What a morning that I will never forget. Steve thank you so much for putting me on these fish.
What a week fishing with new and old friends. Sign me up for next year.

| STEVE, SLAMR, HAWKEYE (JONSEI), QUINN, JESSE, COLLEEN, JOHN, MARK, ET AL---GREAT TRIP!!! Thanks for the great help and fine company--you all made this trip very special for Randy & I. Tough nut to crack up there at first but finally found a system......great learning experience for sure--next time we will hit the MONSTERS up there harder using the WORRALL TECHNIQUE (patent pending). Steve, you obviously know where and how to bring up these BIG BEASTS like no other--thanks again for the friendly assistance--great finally putting a face to the highly respected name. Slamr, thanks for your kind guidance through the streets of FF to the ROACH MOTEL and for leading our group to the EAGLE for that fat 45.5er. The last time I was on Eagle I was with my grandfather, Ken Coulson, who took me on my first Canadian fishing trip in "69 when I was a little pup. I saw my first muskie there and was in awe. He taught me how to fish through loving patience and persistence and has since passed away. I've dedicated that fat 45.5 to his memory as I've dreamed of one day getting back up there and sticking one of those beasts on the Eagle! So again, hats off to Mr Ken Coulson for getting me into this obsession!! Quinn---beautiful TIGER man!! Enjoyed meeting you--great style! Hawkeye, what can I say---you're simply the best darn traffic cop I've ever met!!! Thanks for the "cut" that saved us an hour in that freakin monstrous FF line across the border! Really appreciate the "Wegle" as well--will stick a big one with it and name her in your honor. Jesse and partner, thanks for your helpfulness--think we recaught your 35 back in the hogpen Fri. Randy, the PIKEMASTER, you really nailed those freakin' piksters man!!! Appreciated the dogged endurance, kind help, and colleagiality. A true IRONMAN on the water! Colleen, John, and Mark---you run a fine and friendly camp on the Goon and enjoyed my time with you as well. You seem to truly take an interest in your fisherman as well as your camp and that means alot. It's clean, easy to get to, and close to Dryden for any special needs. It is situated very closely (30 mins from the ramp) to Eagle as well as many other fine muskie waters if the need arises. I will definitely be back! Will work on those Buffet tickets for next year! Sworrall, I will send along the rest of the pics of our seven skies and a pike or two (except the dink we didn't shoot)---how do I post them ([email protected])? Later guys......from the Goon to DC on Wed to eat some chow and mingle with the GWB man (President's dinner)! Maybe I can give him some Muskie tips?? | |

| What a trip!Literally and figuratively.I want to thank Steve for all his help during the week with the pond as well as the trolling motor. You've got that MCGYVER thing down!It took a few days to learn some things and get on fish, but after that , it was "balls to the wall".The lake is all I've heard and then some. This will be the only time I'll post about the Goon.No fish there.(Cadyism)Absolutely the best chance I know for a 30# fish(That fish could be 45-46" on the Goon), a great shot at a 40#fish, and a legitimate shot at a 50# fish , all CASTING shallow weeds.I didn't boat a muskie for the week, but had lots of fish up and some real bruti(plural for brutus).Lots of big dumb muskies .Had a 50 try to eat a 20" pike that ate the LOW rider.Awesome.The biggest surprise was the pike. They were big , numerous, and very aggressive.I (upon advise from the Sage)won't wash my hands in the water.I'll scoop a little real fast and luckily still have all 10 digits. The boatside stuff was nothing short of amazing, both the muskies and pike.Quinn had a pike come 2' out of the water on a spinnerbait that was dripping water!!!!!!The camp and staff were also some of the BEST I've found. They bent over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible.Mike, who handled the dock duties, would run down to the docks to help if he was elsewhere.I'm trying to figure out now , how I can get back there this summer.Even saw a bear cross 502 on the way home .Way cool.Oh, fished Eagle a couple times also. Thanks to Slamr for the spots.Had a low 50's pushing water on a Pacemaker just inside Railroad Bay that was mustard color."Big fish Opah , Big fish".Go get her and give her a kiss for me.Like Steve said, lots of options in the area.Great to fish with Quinn and the boys again.Nice to finally meet Jeff and the Ironman randy.Great guys. Jesse, hope to see you again on Sab Bay.Feel free to pm me or e-mail about any particulars of the trip.Hey wait a minute, somebody put a southern reservoir in the Sheild!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks again to Sworrall for the chance to fish the pond and your help this week.May the Current, er force , be with you. | Hey Worrall or Slamr --
So what were the totals for the trip? How many anglers and how many muskies caught?
Thanks. | |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Totals were: 20 attending. 11 were multi-specie fishing, 9 were serious muskie crazed folks. We had attendees from Colorado, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Tommy V representing the East! There were 12 muskies caught, and by my count, about the same number of Pike over 40". Walleyes of 10#, 9#, and many in the slot were caught. Pike from 30" to 36" were so common, they became something expected. Smallmouth up to 22" were caught, including Sue's personal best which I guarantee was over 5#.
Indian Point was terriffic, rolling out the Red Carpet for us in many many ways. They actually installed high speed wireless for us so daily reports could be filed, pretty cool. They provided us with custom printed shirts, and fed us Wednesday night. Signs from 502 welcomed us to camp, and a banner was displayed from the headquarters, too.
The muskie fishing was tough; I think because the water temps were a yo-yo all week with drops of 10 degrees twice JUST as things were heating up. Seeing absolute slobs wasn't a problem, even getting bit wasn't horribly tough but pinning them up, at least for me, was. No idea why, Quinn, Chet, Slamr, and Sue can attest to that.
The Goon never has been a 'numbers' system. It's a place where the next cast could legitimately produce a fish of a lifetime. I had a milk run set up with 8 Muskies that were big girls, and three that were exceptional, the reason I was there. Chet saw the Supertanker I lost, up close and personal. He was amazed, and I will never forget his comment.
A week there; it's a Pig Hunt.
That's why I fish there, and that's why I'll be back.

| The pike were absolutely amazing!Steve could better answer the question, but I can't wait to get my kids up there.A couple spinnerbaits and possibly some silver minnows and they'd be set.Steve said the bigger pike will move to rocky points and we did catch some there.Amazing pond. Steve | |

The pike are catchable with reasonable ease all year, just need to use different approaches. I like the weed bite, which is good all year and great early and late. As the water warms, reefs and rock shelves and points are hot pitching bass sized cranks. Trolling works well too if one wishes to. Best thing is the fact a supertanker can hit on ANY cast.
