| Before St. Croix had the latest avids and premires I know they made a legend. I also think they made a premire.
what would you compare this old premire to? Is the graphite and wieght comparable to the current premire?
thanks

Location: oswego, il | The old premere had a different finish on them and the musky models were a narrower blank. I have a couple of the old premere rods and i like them better than the new ones. I have sent both back to have new guides put back on a few times already. St. Croix does them cheap and cleans up the rod for you as well.
The old legend is a great rod with a lifetime guarentee. My dad just sold his complete set of them. I think they replace them with an avid rod if they are broken.

Location: Right behind you (tap, tap) BOOO | I bought one of ToodM old Legend St.Croix rods at the Muskie Swap Meet at BeBops in MN in 2003. It's a bucktail rod 7'0", this thing was in excellent shape, it has become one of my favorites and is still in excellent shape.
One question, being that I purchased this rod from someone does that void any warrenty should something happen?

Location: oswego, il | As far as I know the rod has a lifetime warranty no matter who the owner is. I still don't know why my dad got rid of them. He looked hi and low to get a complete set of them and the old blue g-loomis rods just to seel them all. Now he has most of the fig rigs and avids, I am sure those will be for sale before long. |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | According to what I was told by someone at the St Croix Factory, supposedly the "New" Premiers are about equivalent to the the "Old" disconitued Legends with the biggest difference being the warranty. I sort of liked my old premier a little better then the new one, but the new one is lighter and I can't complain since UPS broke the old one during shipping after St Croix had replaced a guide on it.... I wondered why it was taking so long.. |

| The old legends were too brittle for muskies in my humble opinion, really light and sensitive but kind of fragile. The old premiers were heavy, not too sensitive, and incredibly durable.
I think the finish on the new premiers is the same as the old legend in that they are black and the coat isn't as heavy as the old premiers, but I think the blanks are pretty similar to the old ones as far as action and modulous. |

Location: Right behind you (tap, tap) BOOO | I was home over lunch and got a little curious, so i checked the Old Legend Rod and it is an SC IV. If the old Legends are the same blank as the new premiers SC II, then why don't they match up? And my Avid is an SC III.
So what is the better blank? I'm a little confused...

| I don't like the old Legends, the SCIV means that it has more graphite, is lighter, but is also less durable.
Which is the better blank? Personal Preference: do you want a lighter, more sensitive rod that is less durable or do you want a rod that is heavier, bends deeper into the blank and is less sensitive but can take more of a beating (and costs about 1/2 as much)? I think a lot of the difference between the old and new premiers is the paint--the old ones had pretty heavy epoxy on them (adding weight, but also making them more durable), and the new premiers might have a little faster actions.
