Location: north central wisconsin |
I'll be up on the angle next week(Walsh's) and we will have amixed group with some of the people not as avid at musky fishing as the rest of us. I was just wondering about the walleye bite there, and what the hot tip was. I usually used leeches or salted minnows that I took from home on the Winnipeg. Will these work there, or should I leave them home?

Thanks for any tips,

jason D. Schillinger

| Jason,
Crawler harnesses and inline sinkers/bottom bouncers up in Miles Bay is the report I got from Grant at Sab Bay Lodge. You can try cranks, too. Last year, Troy and I got some nice fish on Deep Little Rippers in Monkey Puke, and #5 Shadraps, Firetiger. Not familiar with the Angle, but there should be some suspended fish up there in the big open areas.
Normally, when I go up, I really like using a jig and crawler, find the reefs with deep water nearby, and hopefully graph some fish. Wife prefers jig and leech. Don't overlook the weed bite. My biggest fish from Sab Bay was a 29 in 2 FOW in the weeds, on a 85 degree sunny day. Leech on a plain hook and slip bobber on the deeper points, and weed edges will produce, too.

Location: Madison, WI | I was up on the Angle muskie fishing of course! The walleye guys were bringing in limits of fish daily. I saw one group of 6 with a days catch that dreams are made of (if your looking for walleye:). What I saw and heard out of the deal was lead jigs and minnows. Guessing that the fish have moved onto reefs and would focus my efforts there this time of year. They were also picking up JUMBO perch in the same area's on jig/minnow. I caught a 30.25" walleye on a bobbie bait off a shallow rock reef. Actaully looked pretty dam nice in the beckman! They could use that pattern for 50" muskie, 40" pike and 30" walleye..........

Location: north central wisconsin | Nice fish man. Thanks guys. I don't plan to do much of it, but always like to bring my limit of eyes home(4 fish shouldn't be that hard to catch), and have a shore lunch or two while there.
