Last night on a solo mission I could hear a woman screaming and a dog howling from a near by boat. You know what that means. Dog with hooks in it! I drove over to offer my assistance with the cutters and big pliars. On my way over my dog jumps up and gets in the way, I knock her down and she pulls an Ernie out of my lure rack with her rear foot. The hook is buired to the bend between her toes. I reach down with the channel locks and give a jerk, out it comes no problem. The other dog has a Shad Rap hooked on the front and back legs. I gave a big jerk with the channel locks and cleared the front leg so the dog would chill out. They got him calmed down so I commenced my surgery. I got the split rings cut so I only had to deal with the one hook. Two tines are buired in the big muscle on the back leg. I was able to push one thru and cut it. The other was too deep and was causing some extreme anxiety for the woman and dog everytime I tried to turn it out (barbless would have pulled right out). The husband decided that it was time to go on to the vet, as he was already loosing blood to one bite the dog had given him. I figure I saved around $200 of vet bills thanks to the barbless hooks. 7pm on Saturday sure wouldn't be cheap.
