Which St. Croix rod?

Subject: Which St. Croix rod?

I'm going to be purchasing a new rod and have found that most prefer the 7'6" St. Croix Premier Casting rod. I need a multi-purpose road because I shore fish and don't want to carry different rods for each lure, plus I can't afford it right now. My question is, do I just buy a standard 7'6" Premier casting rod or do I buy the 7'6" Premier Musky Casting rod? Thanks for the help

As you can tell from earlier post, this is my first year of Musky fishing and I'm still plugging away. Between lures, rods, reels, line, etc... there are so many choices a guy could go crazy. I have received gift certificates for my birthday and I decided to buy educational materials such as books and videos instead of just stocking up on lures. I've tried to limit my tackle to dark and light cranks, bucktails, and topwater. I am still having a blast and can't wait for the first. I was at Pymatuning Lake today. This is the best shore fishing lake I have found yet. I'll be back there this weekend. Thanks again and good luck to all.

Get the Musky version (PM76MHF) it's a fantastically versatile rod. The PC version is a bass rod.

Definetly the PM76MHF. Looking at the baits you stocked up on this rod will perform like a dream. I throw everything but my gliders and the lightest bucktails with this rod. It will work great for you.

What size lures do you throw?? That's my main thought process before I buy a rod.

If money is not an issue, I would buy the St.Croix Avid 7'6 I bought one this year and it is great, It can handle
most baits except Jerk baits.

If you like short handle rods, get the avid, if not get the premier they have a longger handle. I also have a 7'6 avid heavy which I use for just for jerk baits and it works awesome.

I do quite a bit of shore fishing, and have a couple of suggestions for you. First off I own the PM76MHF. I agree with all that has been said about it and its capabilites. However you may want to consider a shorter rod for your aplication. yes the longer rod can be a favorable thing for flipping in tight spaces, but it can be a hinderance in tight space for hooksets and fighting fish. Just something to think about. But as far as all around perfromance it is hard to beat....My favorite rod for shore fishing is the PM70MHF works well with everything but light bucktails. Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. The only thing the worries me is that I do like to throw small bucktails but I'm thinking of upsizing my tackle. I mainly use 6" cranks and blue fox #6 bucktails.

These are the lures I'm thinking about getting w/ my gift certificate.

Dancin Raider
Depth Raider 8"
Shallow Raider 7 1/4"
Original Buchertail
Blue Fox #6 (may upsize)
Reef Hawg 6"

My favorite lures I have now are 6"Jake (perch), Jr. Musky Bucktail, and a black hawg woobler. I have others but these are the 3 I throw the most. I have a suick but can't use it very well.

Any book or video recommendations?
