| a couple people responded to the idea i mentioned in the "banished" thread of doing something "tangible" for soldiers to show your support, but were wondering where or how to go about it.
i doubt they'd have a use for any old Pig lures, but there's always something...
check out this link:
http://www.defendamerica.mil/support_troops.html
that's a Department of Defense website that has links to many different organizations (from the Red Cross to some one-person care package operations) that are doing things to show support in real ways. from experience i can tell you that food, phone cards and the like are nice. just browse through them and see if anything matches your desires / ability or just inspires you in some other way.
even better than gifts is something with a personal touch - a letter or a note. when i was deployed a grade school class "adopted" our platoon and sent pen-pal letters back and forth to us. if you ever want to see a big tough infantryman cry, have him read a letter from an 8-year-old stranger saying "thank you for keeping us safe." or "we're proud of you."
the best part is that they're mostly non-political. it's not about if you believe the war is right or wrong, it's just about letting someone who's in a very bad place know that they're not out there on their own.
THANK YOU! | |
