I am curently running Evinrude 4 stroke/40hr on a Crestliner Angler 1600. Originally, I had a 11 1/2 X 13 prop on it until I busted it pretty good. I went to a 11 X 15 because I wanted to increase top end speed and I did by about 5mph.

However, My family is coming out with me moreto fish, to tube, and it seems as though I have more friends joining me from to time. I love the top end speed of the 11 X 15 when I am solo, but in the other scenario's, the 15P prop just won't pull on plane to get a tuber going, takes forever to get on plane even with 2-200 pound adults and all of our gear.

The 13 P worked just in, but it was slow. Should I get another Michigan Match 13P Prop or go to the 11x14?

Some folks have recommneded Hustlers prop as well?

Thanks
Shep

Props are easy to change. If the 13P worked pulling tubes, then just get another, and put it on when you need it. Or, if the MI Wheel or Hustler is cheaper, then go that route.

I got a 2 stroke 40 hp evinrude and run both a 11 3/4 X17 prop and a 12 1/4 X 15 prop. Both get on plain pretty quick with two guys in the boat though the 15 is quicker to plane. I just had both props Cupped at Airmarine in Chicago, will find out if it helped or hindered this weekend. I am thinking in my case the 17 being cupped may not have been the best idea but for the price I just had to try, they actually told me they didn't reccomend it on the 17 so they only cupped it slightly.. On the 15 they said I should see improvement. If you go with just the standard cupping with these guys its around $20-25, however they do have some other thing they can do plus repaint it when they are done. I think that one costs around $55-60. Airmarine is on 56th and central right behind Midway airport. I do not have the PH# handy..

The 13P worked great pulling tubes, etc...I lost about 5 mph top end speed. The 15P gave me the top end speed, but I am lokking for something in between....

The issue with the 13P was that I was over the recommneded RPM's, recommended is 5200-5800, and I was @ 5800-5900. If I'd trim down, I was OK, but I lost another 1-2 mph's....When I switched to the 15P, I get no higher than 5600PM's.

Would the 14P be the answer?

Also - do I really need to get a prop wrench, or can I use my regular wrench I use...I never changed my prop as my buddy has done for me and I know it takes him a couple minutes. Is there a trick or easy instructions?

In my humble opinion, if you are looking for a different prop, save your money from Michigan propeller and get a Solas Alcup3 in a 15 pitch. http://www.solas.com You can get this prop in a 14 or possibly a 15 pitch, but it will be cupped significantly, AND you will also see an increase in exhaust flow which will boost your RPMs back up due to the hub design (it's not rubber bushing). I was able to run a 12 x 17 pitch on my Johnson 50 (2 stroke) and have the motor up in the third bolt hole off the transom (and am planning on going up one more to see how it handles and possibly add even more cupping) A stock 12-3/4 x 15 got me 5500 RPMs on the lowest bolt hole, and cornering stunk. Made the change, increased speed by about 5 mph with the motor moved up and the 17 installed.

If you really want to tweak the motor, lift it off the transom about 2 bolt holes and see where you RPM's are and your speed with your 15 pitch. You can figure an increase in RPM by about 200 or so just by lifting the motor off the transom (Unless this has previously been done). Heck..you might even find just by doing that your 15 pitch will work fine. But...if it is a stock, or standard replacement michigan wheel, it will not corner really well, which is where the alcup will shine and not blow out. You may have to trim down just a touch in a moderate to heavy turn, but not anywhere near as muc as you would with a stock prop.

You could try getting the 13 cupped as a cheap alternative to buying a new prop. Plus some of the bolt hole stuff vms steve mentioned.

VMS - What dealer should I go to to get the Solas Prop?

Also - I ran my 11 1/2X13 prop on Opener, with 3 total adults, full tank of gas, gear, etc....Top speed was only 28-29, and it took a good 20-30 seconds to plane out. This may have been due to all the weight of us guys was in the back of the boat?
RPM's were @ 6000, which is more than the recommended 5200-5800. I had this same issue last year which is why I went to the 15P in the Michigan Match. Love that prop when I am solo, but it will not pull a tube/skier???? I need an all around prop and will the 12.25 X15 or 12.5 X 14 be the answer?

After numerous calls to various prop places, they all recommend the 13P. Some are telling me to get the MI Wheel Vortex prop in 10 3/8 X 13. Anyone know about these new props?

Any of them suggest getting it cupped first before buying a new one?

No advice on getting cupped. Props for me run only about $85-$100.00, so I am willing to get a new one anyway....
