| The state of Iowa has done a fantastic job with the muskie program in the last few years. The state has long been know for the Iowa Great Lakes,of Okoboji(east+west)and Spirit. However, there are a few other lakes that have recieved stockings and have done quite well. These lakes are rather atypical for Iowa in that they are clear, clean and support lucious weed growth, not to mention an incredible forage base. It's time to put the WHOLE state on the map!We need your help.Fisheries personnel need to hear from anglers that would be in support of more stocking. Not necessarily that many more lakes but to really take care of the ones we have.An increased size limit is another issue but we'll wait on that one for now.How would you guys from Minnesota and Wisconsin like to drive a few hours in March/April and catch 5 fish in a day up to 48" on TOPWATER?Happened this spring.More than just corn and hogs down here. The economic impact of muskies is well documented .WE SPEND MONEY!We don't have a fight here , we just need to have our collective voices heard.More Muskies. With this effort will come more opportunities to educate the public as well. It's a win/win situation. Please take a minute to call the Iowa DNR Fisheries Chief,Marion Conover at 515-281-5918 and leave a message with your name, where you're from and that you support More Muskies in Iowa. Thanks a ton! Location: Watertown MN | That sounds great, but I have only one thing holding me back, and that is the fear of seeing this guy jumping into a lake in his skippies. How would I explain that to my son if he were to see that. He might be scarred for life. Will give him a call tomorrow, after I get out of this all day training, heck my brother lives very close to Lake X. Heck of lot short than heading to KY
Good luck

| Jokes about the albino Walrus aside, I am willing to make the call but can you educate me a bit more on what lakes we're talking about?
I'm from Illinois and would be willing to make the trek west when things are frozen up here. Some background on the lakes? What is the DNR disposition towards Muskies relative to other sportfish? |

| I need to clarify. The DNR WANTS to hear from muskie fishermen/women regarding muskies in the state. They are in SUPPORT of more muskie stocking but need "ammo" to take higher and in regards to budgeting I assume.I repeat THE IOWA DNR HAS DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THE MUSKIE PROGRAM, and I thank them everyday I slip my boat in the lake 10 minutes away. I am grateful. Steve |

Location: oswego, il | Steve, where iowa really needs to market their musky stocking efforts is to the minnesota guys. If more of them knew about it, tey would come down and fish before and after their season is open and closed. How far of a drive is it to those waters from the chicago area? |

| Ummm Todd do you really think we need to do that?
I agree with you 100%. This may mean less Muskies overall for Steve and the others that fish these lakes. But they are still talking up a storm and trying to get more involved realizing that they might be cutting their own throats.
Love to see some MN guys learn that.
Enough from my big mouth today.

| The lake we fish is only 410 acres , with only about 400 fishable. It's small. Instead of keeping quiet and gambling, we're gonna talk and in a sense still gamble. By telling what's there, we can hopefully educate the general population about these magnificent fish. Yeah, I know it's only a fish, but it's MY fish. Then, if one is caught, it MAY have a better chance at living. The lake we've been fishing is Pleasant Creek. No more shhhhh.Too many know already and with proper care from educated fishermen/women, she'll be fine.Still have to make 'em bite.Keep putting them in the lake and over time , the education will take hold. Rome wasn't built in a day.Better to try and fail than to not try.Like Shady said, it may mean less for us.I like watching buddies and kids catch 'em too.The other lakes in the"little 3" are Big Creek near Des Moines and 3 Mile about an hour southwest of Des Moines.Funny thing is that on a drive from Chicago, you'll pass 3-4 really good lakes too.Lake Goerge anyone?Lots of shad , deep water and nice vegetation.Very fat fish.I digress. Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | Steve,
I will call and leave a message today. I was fortuante enough to be able to fish Pleasant Creek this past weekend. Even though we got skunked, I will definately be back. It is nice to know there are some good muskie lake that are not too far away and are open to fishing prior to the MN opener. |
