Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | MatchFISHING 2004 is nearly upon us, sign-up is tomorrow at 7PM Central.....HOPEFULLY we will be filling the full 48 team field! The first 48 teams to sign up will be in, whoever follows will be alternates in case any team does drop out before the beginning of Pool Play. I sent out a mass emailing last night, if you got it, please pass it on to your friends, neighbors, fishing partners, and enemies of the state. Tomyv and I will be spamming the world more today, but I'm still anxious about us getting a full 48 team field....
I have compiled all the messages I have put on the board so far this year about 2004s MFishing, please puruse it at your leisure, and respond to the next post on this thread with any questions that you need answered!
Remember, tomorrow night at 7PM Central is the official signup, get in early, drag your friends in.....Pool Assingments will be done before the beginning of next week so everyone can start planning their matches sooner than later.
Good luck to all MatchFISHERS, see you in the Championship!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | For last year's rules go to: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/matchfishing.asp
Next year's MatchFISHING will be a little different, namely we will be going with 16 pools of 3 (which means 48 teams...which means tell your friends and neighbors, we need to find 16 more teams for next year's play) and a two sided bracket system (white and blue divisions). More details will be ironed out and presented to the MuskieFIRST members as they are finalized. A little competition, a little trash talking, and a whole lot of fun has made this into a great event. Check out the link, and start thinking of your partner for next year, your team name, and the lakes you'll be fishing inorder to take home the prize in the 3rd Annual MuskieFIRST MatchFISHING Tournament.
Each team will be in one boat, with only 2 people fishing for points in that boat. The TWO TEAMS matching up can be anywhere in relation to one another.
Example:
Team Musky For Lunch (Slamr and Boro) vs. Team War Pigs (Ralph Florio and Joe Mellott)
Day: Saturday June the Xth, decided by both teams in advance
Start Time: determined by whatever time the teams each seperately decide to start fishing
Location: Musky For Lunch to be on Lake Webster in Indiana, War Pigs on Minnetonka in Minnesota
Item Assigned: a plunger
Results: Musky for Lunch scores on a 55" (Slamr) and a 40" (Boro)......War Pigs manages a 32.5 (Ralph) and a 31 (Joe)
Scoring: MFL totals 43 points (29 for the 55" [4 points for a fish over 30", then a point for each inch beyond 30"] and 14 for the 40") and War Pigs 12 points.
Winner: Musky For Lunch. Being that this is June they get a win for pool play, and carry their points with them. War Pigs take a loss, but also keep their points. MFL has a record of 1-0 with 43 points. War Pigs 0-1 with 12 points.
***pictures must be on site within 3 days, which would be the end of the day Tuesday, and results w/ or w/o pics need to be on the site ASAP if not the same or next day.
The beauty of matchfishing is that the two teams can be on ANY DIFFERENT lakes as long as they fish on the same day. The day prior to the match, myself or other MatchFISHING Team members will be emailing or posting on site an "item" which will be pictured in photographic proof to verify all catches for points for the tourney. The items are generally wacky kitchen items such as spatulas, rolling pins or going to the insane like umbrellas or lawn chairs (there is a classic pick of Richard Collin holding the SKINNIEST 50" muskie while sitting on the back of his boat in a lawn chair). Photos are required to be submitted within 3 days of the match date, and results need to be reported onto the site ASAP!
here is the schedule:
June 1 to July 31: Pool Play
*each team in each pool of three must find a time to match up against each opponent
August 1 to August 31st: Sweet 16
*all pool winners advance to the tourney format
September: Round of 8
October: Final 4
November: Face off for the Championship
*scheduling between teams is done by the team members.
Many of you have gotten this in an email, many more will in the next few days.....if you have gotten it, please pass it on, if you havent, take it here and pass it on. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I run an event for the site, I'm always afraid NO ONE is going to sign up. We NEED TO GET a full field of 48 teams, the more we get the word out, the better our chances are to get to that full field. This year promises to be bigger and better. Less rules discrepancies, more trash talking, and this year I WILL advance out of pool play!
MuskieFIRST.com is proud to announce the 3rd year of MatchFISHING for 2004. For those of you not already familiar with MatchFISHING, it is a free event which pits anglers from across the range of the muskie against each other in fierce but friendly competition. Regardless of the waters that each team in MatchFISHING decides to hunt for the days’ competition, they are still matched up against another team (which may or not be on the same waters) who is working equally as hard to lure the elusive muskie into the boat. MatchFISHING allows for the great distances which may separate the teams involved by merely requiring that the teams “match up” on the same day.
Each of the previous years have seen new changes and refinements to the structure of the event and this year is no different. Expanding from a Pool Play system of 8 pools of 4 teams, MatchFISHING will in 2004 be expanded to 16 pools of three teams each. This year each team will match up against each of the other teams within their pool to determine the winner of the pool. Pool play will run for the months of June and July, with the winners from the pools then facing off tournament style throughout the months of August, September, and October, with the King of MatchFISHING being crowned from November’s results.
Joe Mellott and Ralph Florio defeated Norm Wild and a partner in 2003’s tourney to take the title…now with an expanded field who will take the prize? The event is free to enter with prizes to be rewarded for the winners. The rules are strict, the competition intense, but the goal is fun and to get to interact with other members from throughout the muskie world!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Sign up order isnt going to count for anything, JimmyK will be putting the pools together before the end of the weekend by drawing from a hat, so it's really just a matter of getting your name on the sign-up sheet. Pool assignments won't be determined by the order by which people sign up. I am HOPING that its hard to get in because teams are filling up all 48 spots so quickly.....but my thought is that it might not be so hard being that 48 teams is a big step up from last year's 32. SO.....get on as quickly as you can!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | and btw, those of you without partners CAN sign up as a team, just find someone to fish with you during match days! We would RATHER have committed teams, but in the expanded 48 team format, and with the difficulties in scheduling, for this year a single is a team, just need to have a partner or a tripod for pics for your match dates.
