I'm sure we all say it at least once per outing. How often do the fish hear us and oblige us by eating the goods? How many last cast fish have you caught?Any really stand out?Hope Shamu hears me tonight. Steve

I was out with Boro 2 years ago, had 3 in the boat to his ZERO (he displayed his displeasure at this by dropping a knife on my hand after I boated a fatty). I popped fish number 4, just a 36"....but after getting her back in the water, Boron announced that we had just had our last casts. Poor guy, wouldnt borrow a hot bait.....

A few years back on Pewaukee, we were getting ready to head home when I said I needed to take one cast off the other side of the boat because I hadn't fished off it most of the day. Two pulls with a Suick, and a 38" was hooked

My biggest a 48" was on the last cast of a week long trip to Vermillion 2 years ago. A storm was rolling in we were fishing a rocky saddle and my dad made a cast that got hung up in some rocks I said I was going to make one last cast then the trip was over. Then pow 48 engulfs a bootail. As I'm fighting the fish my dad is about to cut his line but he got the angle on his bait and got it out of the way. Top 2 big fish memory along with you know which one SteveJ.

My second muskie was on a last cast. Up at crow lake in Ontario. Had a friend who was showing us around the lake and after following him all day and catching my first muskie (a natural tiger) early in hte morning, we had caught nothing else all day. We fished the next to the last reef as it got dark and my partner and I decided to just stay behind and let the friend and his partner fish the last reef on our way in by themselves. We were drifting off the reef we had just fished so to kill time I decided to cast once away from the reef in almost pitch darkness. The Mepps hit the water and bang. My first pure strain muskie. Its been tough to beat that day. First muskies both tiger and naural.

It wasnt a one last cast, but last year I was fishing with Tomcat when we came up on a spot where I had had a follow two weeks before. I told Tom that I was going to see if the 40" that followed was still at home. I pitched out a bait and made three twitches and SLAM! She pounded it. The fish was 39.5"..Tom woudnt give me the extra half inch Still one of my favorite fish. Its a shame the camera man cut off its tail !!

A few years ago my buddy and I ended our annual trip to LOTW with a fish on EACH of our last casts. We announced that we each get one LAST cast and fired them out. I hooked up right away with a mid 30's fish. We got a good laugh about the last cast on the last night of a good trip producing a respectable fish. Then my buddy says that he never got to finish his last cast because he had to burn his in to get the net ready. Thus he was entitled to a "do over" (ha ha). So, he fired off his Topraider far behind the boat and half-way back it was inhaled by a low 40's fish. Quite a memorable evening... two LAST casts and TWO nice fish.

Ain't musky fishing GREAT?

I don't know if you can consider it a last cast, but the last drift of 2003, on the last spot that I was working before heading in for the Packer game, I got a rip on a sucker, and proceeded to put a FAT 44.5 in the boat. Pretty good way to end the season.

PS, it was before I could fire out my last cast.

Usually when I announce my last cast it is followed by the backlash of a lifetime or I get snagged on something just out of reach of my lure retriever. I now keep the statement to myself!
