I’m looking for a 25-30 horse 2 stroke DFI/EFI tiller. Does such a motor exist? I am trying to find a two stroke because it has half the moving parts, which will help with maintenance. I’m a do-it-yourselfer, but a gear head by no means.

I would rather not get a 4 stroke and a carbureted engine is out of the question.

Bombardier/Evinrude/Johnson "E-TEC" series. It is a new line of SDI small - mid HP motors, 20-75 HP I think.

Check out the web site - Good new stuff. Very clean, efficient, quiet, non-smoking and easy starting.

OOPs, sorry the line-up is from 40Hp - 90Hp

Remember it's better to have HP and not need than to need HP and not have !!!

At this point E-Tec is your only choice in that HP range.........what is your boat rated for? can it handle a 40?

Mercury OptiMax put out some smaller HP motors in 2004, not sure how low they intend to go.

Yamaha HPDI is still in the bigger ones, not sure what their smaller HP engines will do in the near future for DFI.

I'm want to throw it on a 14 ft. Lund that is rated for a max of 30.

Guess my next question would be, Since this boat was built in the 80's are the ratings still applicable for heavy 4 strokes, modified 2 strokes?

The ratings plate will still apply, yes. I would add 1 cubic foot of foam floatation to the rear of the boat to carry a 4 stroke safely, just to be sure.
