| I was thinking of having a sucker rigged on the deep side of the boat in a rod holder while I was casting the shorlines with lures . I have never fished suckers before and don't really know how to rig them ? I know I should use a quick srtike rig so I made a couple of those myself . But what I don't know is if I should have the sucker on a big bobber or if I should just have it weighted down a few feet ? . Or should I just let the sucker go where ever it wants without any weight to hold it down ? I'll be using smaller suckers nothing over eight inches long and the rods will be in the rod holders while I'm casting jerkbaits . sucker fishing sounds like a great way to add a few extra fish in the boat per year . I'm allowed two rods why not use them right ?

Location: oswego, il | Spring is a good time to use suckers. You can go up to 12"ers if you want. As far as a bobber goes, boat control and depth can issues. Go with a bobber in really shallow water and straight down in deeper than 10'. If it's really windy just drap it straight down. Hope this helps. |

| I have been using suckers early in the year on the side of the boat that were not casting on.
This might get any lazy followers to strike the live bait. I'll go bobber at 3-5 feet, my son will go no bobber at 6-8 feet.
3 fish last year this way. Learn to use the the quick strike rig with the rubber band, I like this best {my 2 cents}
keeps sucker moving more natural when drifting.
Hope this helps. I use large Thill floats {slip bobber}not large round foam ones

| Drop shot 5 ft down 1+oz on a 3 ft. snout rigged leash using a 10/0 red circle hook.
Once the sucker is taken, let the muskie go for a while (unless in heavy timber) When you're ready, don't set the hook. You just reel in the tension, the circle hook will break free of the sucker and catch in the corner of the muskie's mouth.
Haven't missed a strike yet with this setup and haven't had a gut hooked fish either. |
