Location: Alsip, Il | I just got two 6" jointed musky king lures I ordered in Feb. They came without split rings on the hooks, my question are split rings necessary with these baits? Thanks, Al |

Location: Holly, MI | I have a few Wileys and a bunch of Terminators (pretty close match). None have split rings and all that have been hit have hooked up. I wouldn't mess with them, more chances for somthing to go wrong. I assume you got them for trolling. They are great lures. I do "T" my belly hooks a bit and turn the barb down a bit. They will really wear on the wood body when trolled for a long time. Tons of Wileys trolling all over Lake St Clair and I have never seen a splitringed one. The mass produced (plastic) trolling lures have to have rings as it is the only way to add a hook. The wood lures use the stainless steel screw eye and they are available in a non-closed eye. I built a bunch of Terminator/Wiley look alikes this winter and didn't splitring those either. |

Location: W. PA. | The large wileys come with split rings now, but not the smaller ones (9" and down) You won't want to put them on the smaller ones as they will cause the hooks to dig into the bait, especially trolling at 5-6 mph all day. Lobi has it right, just t the hooks, you won't have a problem.

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | The major reason these lures do not have split rings is because the hooks will tear up the bait worse than the hooks already do while trolling at high speeds. The hooks rubbing on the sides of the lure will trash them in no time if you had split rings on it.
You really don't need to change anything. |

| Thanks that is good to know. I just received a jointed with split rings and a straight model without, and that was the first question I had. Split rings should only be added if they increase hooking percentage without screwing up lure action. T ing the hooks ups the hooking percentage without destroying the action. I am just learning to custom tune and tailor my musky treats! |

Location: New Baden IL | I dont put split rings on them till they get slimed up and I have to cut some hooks. Then I put split rings on. The best Wiley bait I have WAS a light green/yellow frog colored one. Most of the paint is gone from hooks and teeth, and it still catches fish. I had 9 fish on it last year.
No noticible change in action after all the abuse and hook/spilit ring change.
