Juvenile Musky/Pike ID

Was out today bass fishin on a local abandoned quarry deep in the woods by my work in the Chi-town burbs. It's an incredible bass hole that I was pondering to drop a few skee's into for the hell of it. Anyway, I caught 2 juveniles that were definately of the esox family. Problem is, I don't know if they were rogue pike from some other water, or skees that some other nut planted. My rational thought would be that they are pike...but they were real brown, and no typical markings of a pike...certainly didn't look like any pike I've ever seen. The water is crystal clear, and all other species I've caught out of here have been bright colored as you'd expect from clear water. So my question is: Have any of you ever seen a brown pike? or are these little buggers gonna be my personal musky toys? Keep in mind these are juvenile fish (12-13")

If the fish was brown to gold, and was definitely an esox, my guess is a Muskie. Little Pike still are green to silver/green; the ones I have had experience with![:0]

Skeelunker: There is a possibility that the fish in question, while esox, could be "grass pike", native to Illinois. Size you mention is MAX for them.
