Do any of these oversided bass lures for moss and lillypads do any good? There are lots of lilly pads in the lake I fish and bass frogs do great for bass, plus the water is plenty deep for muskies under the lilly pads. So do these work?

I know that Spence Petros uses both of these lures in slop situations on Canadian waters. I don't think a frogzilla will last for more than one fish, but it will allow you to fish the slop much more efficiently. I have heard the Sloppe Pig isn't the best hooker but don't take my word for it. Good luck fishing this stuff, because it is overlooked by many others.

When using Frogzilla's use a heavy mono leader or floroucarbon leader. Wire makes them sink.

Rob, since your featured in an ad for the frogzilla, can you give me some tips? Do you use it in moss or lilly's? Do you jerk it or just reel it in?

Zach, they make a magnum johnson silver minnow too and hooked with a trailer won't sink really deep.[:)]

I have had great success with the BIG Sluggo in the really nasty slop...just give them a 4 count before setting the hook, and you WILL catch muskies on the silly looking thing. I use a twitch tempo like with an Undertaker.

You can use a couple of methods... Straight, slow retrieve or twitching it which is what I prefer. Makes more splashes. I cast out and hold the rod at 10 o'' clock and twitch to 11 or 12.
I typically use them around pads. In moss, I''m thinking to switch back to a wire leader so the frog would sink below it more. I also like Steve''s idea with the big Sluggo.
I''ve also had success with just the Moss Master Tourney Frog. I remember a bass tourney over on Mud/Callahan Lakes (Hayward area) where I had a big 48"er follow the frog in and it just gave me chills. She was right behind it and even flared her gills and I thought that frog was a goner, but I think she saw me and the boat. Just incredible. That tourney, I landed one 35" and had another follow from one in the low 40''s.

Rob do you have any recogmendations for floro leaders(brand or # test)? How do floro leaders hold up, I know lots of salt water fishermen swear by them but I can't convince myself to try them.

Todd,
Which fluorocarbon are you using? I might try to make my own also.
Thanks!

The Guides at Andy Myers Lodge are having good luck using the Berkley Trilene 100# Flourocarbon and it is flexible enough to tie a knot. I bought another brand and it was to stiff to tie a decent knot, had to put two clinches on it, will get the Berkley now.

thanks,
Don

Rob, I use seaguar and I ordered it through cabela's. It's good stuff. Make sure whatever kind you get that it's pure flourocarbon.

Don, I believe that the berkely stuff is flourocarbon coated mono and that is why it is more limp. Maybe 100lb. is ok. I have 20lb bass pro brand flourocarbon on my trolling rods and it has held up well but now it is coming apart like string cheese. The flourocarbon is peeling off the mono. I had no idea that it was a hybrid line or I would have never bought it.
