30 pound muskie or 8 point buck ?

If you guys had a chance at going hunting for a week for one 8 point buck or go fishing for a week to catch many fish with at least one 30 pounder. What would you choose?

I have never hunted but I would never start now that I know that I would be passing up 30 pounders to do so. I mean if hunting was during the summer it might be a bit different but October and November are the best months for trophy muskies.

The only possitive thing I see about hunting is the meat in the freezer but anyone can buy meat at the store.[:sun:]

It's a musky for me. I have no more spots to hunt unless I want to hunt the public zoo's we have or pay some big bucks to hunt a club.

Talk a Pope and Young (archery) and it is the Buck, just a standard 2 1/2 year old 8, and MUSKIE everytime!

Good topic. After hunting Deer since 1966 and being a die hard Big Buck hunter I would have to say that catching a 44 inch 28lb. pig that my son netted for me was a bigger thrill than taking a 12 point 200lb. Buck. The best part too is that the fish swims away but the deer goes to the freezer.

I go for the Muskie- What else is there? Bow hunting rocks! Big bucks w/ a bow are a challenge. W/a gun-no fun. Besides like fishhunter3 says, there's to many idiots who don't know how to handle a firearm properly or even how to differientiate another hunter from a deer. If in doubt don't shoot.

But, I think it's much harder finding & catching big muskies. []

I'll take the muskies. I've killed Pope and Young bucks but never caught a 30 pounder so the choice is easy.

Hey Rich,

I have not hunted deer in MANY years, but I can say that I gave up waterfowling for muskies. Of course the goverment's insistence to bring in the plethora of legislation ranging from steel shot to new registration and ownership rules kind of cinched the decision. My pet waterfowling piece is an o/u 10 gauge cannon. It was going to cost me an arm and a leg to convert this to shoot steel shot by having choke tubes put in, having the chokes reamed out, or to buy new barrels.

Anyway, it's one thing to be a muskie addict, but another to be on the guiding side of things. Sorry for the long-winded answer, but put me down for the muskie!

Just got home today from a week of hunting and fishing. Hunted Saturday and Sunday, fished Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Next year I don't think I will make it in the woods. I didn't get a deer or a musky but I was bored out of my brain sitting in the woods. Being on the water is where it's at for me.

Not to mention when it gets time to leave you don't have to walk over a mile out of the woods, drag a 120lb+ deer with you, spend the next day cutting it up(or pay big $) and then pay to have it processed. I'll just bring my hunting friends fishing during the summer and let them feed me the venny.

Hey Steve you mentioned been on the guide side of things. Well for me it brings up the fact that I passed my rod off to a few buddys four times in the last month and 3 of those fish were 45/47 and 50.5. I think that guiding makes you just happy to get them hooked up and it doesn't bother me to pass up a good fish to help a buddy make his year. I still landed more then my share anyways.[:sun:] I guess once a guide always a guide.

I have shot around 15 8pt or better bucks, they are a trill.. but then you have to climb down and gut then out. LOL[:knockout:]

To do it once a year and feed the family is fine by me. But 30lb muskies are more of a thrill then anything else I have ever caught. And you can let it go for an other day.. try doing that with the 8 point buck flopping on the ground.[;)]

Deer are fun, but muskie fun can continue on for future generations.[]
