| I've had my PD for 4 years now and have been religious about using WD-40 a couple times a year to keep everything lubricated and in working order. I did my best to clean the crud out of it (sunflower seeds, weed chunks, etc.) after nearly every outing. That said, mine crapped out on me the day before leaving for a Canadian fishing trip last year. Of course I picked up a new one for the trip, but did take the time to call Minnkota upon my return. I was told that my maintenance was right on the mark and that there really wasn't much more I could have done to prevent it.
In other words, it's just one of those things that needs to be replaced after a certain amount of wear and tear. I'm sure there are guys out there who haven't replaced theirs in 10 years, so it's hard to write a single prescription that will prevent you from having to ever replace the one you've got. I'm sure the weight of my size 15 feet had nothing to do with it.
Take care of it, say your prayers at the beginning and end of each trip, and hope for the best....

Location: Greenfield, WI | I have been using PD units for at least 5 years. I regularily hose it down and use WD-40 after it dries. Road grit is my biggest problem. |

| Try the "Pedal Sox" from Dr. Scholls; change daily and powder... |

Location: Davenport, IA | After less than a year mine went bad. It cost $60 to replace if I remember right. It was the control board that went bad. I don't see how WD-40 would help that. I don't know if theres anything you can do to help it other than don't be rough on it, throwing it around, dropping it and putting too much pressure on it. |

| mine went bad in less than a year. I keep it in a storage when trailering and not in use, but it still went bad. Minnkota replaced it no questions asked. Its included in the 2yr warrenty. |

| esoxmn,
I have a question on the warranty you mentioned. I have not had a PD pedal last more than 12 months at any time, regardless of what I do to maintain it. I have no reason to doubt your post man, but when I talked with Minnkota about 3-years ago and told them, I basically got the "Well, were sorry to hear that you had trouble, but there really isnt anything we can do." Like I said, every 12 months (almost to the day) I wind up having to buy a new pedal. I may have to call Minnkota again to try and get them to pay for this years pedal. Thanks for the info.

| xllund,
They said the pedal was included in the 2yr warranty you get when you buy the motor. Mabee it is something new. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Those Pedal Socks yellow? I would like that.
I use a light spray lubricant on mine, and keep the finish the correct color with a plastic protectant. |

| So just spray Wd40 all over the top of the pedal? |
