Short question? I have a cradle and it works great with two people, but when I'm alone its a problem. Wondering if anyone has seen the new Frabil "Big Kahuna" or Beckmen's "The Penn"? Is one better than the other? Like some input. thanks bill from elma

bill,
I used the Beckman Fin Saver Pen net this season, and it is the most "musky friendly" landing device I've ever used.
The smaller mesh on the sides of the net make it impossible for a fish to get a split fin. The flat bottom keeps the net open so the fish can right itself and move around in the net.
I used the net on over 60 fish, and never got a hook stuck in it!
Definitely my choice.

I also used the Beckman Finsaver Pen this past season. Awesome net! Very fish friendly. Crankbaits with multi-gang hooks like the Believers will still tangle, but not as severely, and sometimes not at all. Likely the same for multi-hook jerkbaits too. Spinnerbaits and bucktails are a dream release in this thing. For higher sided boats or fishing alone, it is very fish friendly. I personally landed 2 fish in the upper 40" range this past season while fishing alone, (one of these was darn close to 30 pounds),using this net, so it is doable. Not possible with a cradle. Go to the google.com search engine and just type in beckman nets. They sell direct, you can just gather information, or you can go through one of the major retailers. Bruce and gang make an awesome range of products, and their customer service and pride in their work is second to none!

I used the frabill, and it was all it was cracked up to be...a GREAT net. Steve at Frabill is a good friend, and usually steers me the right direction!

The beckman fin saver surly saved lots of fins this past season in my boat. I like the deep bag and large hoop and quite frankly never missed a fish. Simple as that.[]

I too used the Beckman Fin Saver this season and have nothing but praise for it. NO split fins! Fish move freely, including the big ones. Looking at photo's in mags where the larger mesh nets (in photo) were used usually included split and even broken fins!! If you must net your fish, treat them with the care they deserve, use a Beckman Fin Saver!!
