With the wierd wheather I did only average.. nothing to write home about. I had good days and bad days.. no rock solid pattern would hold.

Mother nature sure plays a big roll in trying to make improvements on other seasons.[;)]

Overall my numbers were up and average size but no real monsters, did have many chances.I lost more fish this year compared to any years put together previously, more follows also. But thats what makes muskie fishing so appealing.

Definitely an interesting year. The fish were hot in June and July. Had a record shattering 14 fish day in late June that included 8 fish over 40 inches, and only one sub-legal at 34.5". Pretty hard to gripe about days like those.

In early August, we got nailed with a major heat wave in Southern Ontario. Prolonged stretches of temperatures in the 30 Celsius / 90 F range, and 6 weeks of no rain. Many lakes rapidly dropped, and the fishing became tough.

Overall, a slightly above average numbers year, but there were some highlights. I dropped my loss rate by about 30% over prior years due to experimenting with drag settings lighter than I might normally use on some baits. I also put a significantly higher perecentage of trophy class fish and over 40" fish in the boat this year... up about 15% to prior years. I also took advantage of the tough conditions, and used the opportunity to try some new baits and tactics. Some worked, and some didn't. Some have major potential and need some tweaking... others, well - I'll save them for a crappy day when absolutely nothing else seems to work. Who knows what could happen on those days.

My year wasn't great, less than normal guide clients, lost a couple of tournament fish that would have meant a much better payday. Down overall a fish or two from normal, but up a bit on overall size. A fair trade off for me. Has been a great Fall however.[:praise:]

I had a lot of fun this year.

Fishing the PMTT with my good friend Keith Eldrup (Llungen Lures). We ended up in 8th place at the PMTT Invitational Championship on Pewaukee Lake and 15th place overall. The 45" I caught in the Invitational Championship on a figure eight was good enough for big fish on Saturday and a $1000 prize. Oh yeah, thanks for letting my borrow that 7" Perch colored Slammer that you don't use anymore. It looked great hanging out of the fishes mouth (LOL). We met and partied with a lot of great people.

Overall numbers were down - especially in the Fall. The weather really screwed things up for me late in the year. Lots of followers but a limited number would commit. This is the first year I outproduced suckers with artificials in the Fall.

My most memorable fish was a 45" hawg that I popped on a bulldawg about 10 feet from the boat on Vilas County Lake. It wasn't so much the fish but the meaning behind it. Last year some high school buddies started a little reunion/musky tournament. Shortly after last years tourney, my buddy's father passed away - it was their cabin we stayed at. We re-named the tourney the George Swenson Memorial Musky Tournament this year. It was an emotional weekend for all as it was out first return trip after George passed away. He was a great man - someone we all wanted to be like. He is missed very much. My fish was good enough to win the first tourney in George's honor.

I had a blast fishing out of my new Tuffy Esox Deep V. Awesome boat!

Best of all are the new friendships I have made. Thanks to this website, my own website, the PMTT, the shows and trips, I have made many everlasting friendships over this past year. I shared the boat with many new faces and had great times with all.

The numbers were down but in the end, a fun day on the water with a quality partner overrides any musky catch in my book.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!

I had a pretty good season, My numbers were down due to what I beleive was that brutal hot spell we had during the summer but my big fish numbers were up, they are as follows.
87 legals boated, 10 between 25 and 30lbs and 4 over 30lbs with the largest caught by me a 52 1/4 inch that was released. 2 fish were kept, everything else was released

I had my best year to date with
112 clients. Not all were muskie fishermen, walleye and smallmouth still help me pay the bills.

My clients and I boated around 50
leagals and another 20 or so subs.
The largest was 52.5" caught by a client, mine was a 48"..3 times!

All in all.....it was a very good season, but way to short! []

Overall this year was not as good as previous years.I started out by missing the Musky Opening week with a blown powerhead. Then it was front after front with most of the summer and fall having very high barometric pressure, above normal air temps, making for higher then normal water temps. This kept the baitfish schools deep out in Lake Erie, and most of the Muskies from the Niagara River were out there somewhere in the depths as well. When it got to the prime time of November, two things did not help, one was as a storm front that packed 60 mph SW winds for two days straight,we had a chocolate sea for about six days before the fishing came back on,and the water temprature would keep warming backup to 49 degrees, after every cooling period would come another heat wave.So overall the numbers of Big One's were down for most everyone fishing here,I managed only four Muskies from 52" to 50",many in the mid 40's.Here it is December with the season closed, the boat put away and the outside temprature is above 60 degrees.

2001 was a good year here on the CAVE and we are still fishing in 55 degree water. In fact clients boated 5 muskies over this past weekend with 3 over 40 inches and a 45.5 the largest. Currently my boat has 169 muskies, the NEW State Record being the largest. That one lucky cast made the year for me. The CAVE showed great numbers for all this year with 21 fish over 50 inches taken. However fish from 45 to 49 were few and far between. Hope to boat 10 or 12 more as our long term weather report looks mild thru the rest of the year.
