Anybody else hear anything about a 56"er that got caught by the Dells dam?
I heard a couple of guys talking about it at the sports show and I saw a post about it on lake-link.

I heard about it also. I didn't see a picture of the fish, just a length and location.

I found this:

My scouting yesterday proved pretty intriguing! Met a fellow angler fishing 2 lines one sit-line slip-sinker/fathead standard Walleye presentation and the other jigging a transparent silicone shadmimique, using that same last lure he claims to have landed a 56" Tiger on Wednesday using 6# test! I sure wish I stopped down earlier to take a photo of that! He did not seem really excited though - at least far from what I would have been fish was released... no picture taken, he claims it took a little over 15mins to land the Beghemot! Best of luck this walleye run to all the Dells area enthusiasts reeling in the meal sized fish if there are such monsters lurking down there! Fish was caught by the culvert under the Mexicali Rose parking lot. I have seen Muskies follow up the White Bass I am fighting on ultralight tackle but never of such proportion! I would have guesstimated the size of my sighted fish @ just under 4ft!

56" Tiger....pre-spawn...around concentrated baitfish....am I crazy or would that have been a WR Tiger? For once I agree with Gander Boy, very fishy.

I have fished that area alot, over twenty years and the other day down there the scuttle butt was that its not been witnessed by anyone that the bait shops found that seemed truthful. I guess it could be, but myself after spending week after week there, I have my doubts.

I doubt a tiger, but in the WI River system you never know. Two years ago a 56+ went through the hydro at the Stevens Point dam.

Ok, I might as well add this too. While talking to a musky guy at the Milwaukee Musky Expo, talk of where a new world record could come from came up. He said (Nope, not going to name drop) that a possible record was caught by some kids up by the Petenwell, length was short but the fish was full of eggs, possibly over 70 lbs......has anybody heard of this one?

I think the guy that reported the 56" Tiger is Lyubaka from Walleye first. If I recall correctly he was a little skeptical without a picture as proof also.. I'm guessing the guy who allegedly caught it just guessed on the length or plain ol' lied about the length when he told Lyubaka...

I just got back from a family vacation in the dells. I fished for about 2 hours in the exact location that the musky wqs supposedly caught. I spoke to a couple of locals and asked them about the rumor. one of them said it is hogwash. He said on that same day he was fishing with the guy who was said to have caught the fish. He said the man made no mention of a 56 inch musky. That might be something I would mention. Nobody I talked to believes a musky of that size was caught. There were no witnesses and no pictures. I'm not saying it can't be true but this rumor appears to be false. Still, I did throw a small bulldog around just in case.....

Nothing like fishing for muskies out of season. Or at the very least extremely questionable ethics tossing a known musky bait claiming to "fish for" another species.

I was kidding you putz. I guess it is difficult to pick up sarcasm on a computer. If you really want to know what I was using, it was fatheads. Anyone who knows me knows I wouldn't fish muskies out of season. The point is, the rumor is just a rumor. Sorry about the confusion.

Gander,

A 50" prespawner was caught by some kids last year on Pete that was photoed and released. It was nowhere near record size. It was a nice fish, and could have been high 30's maybe close to 40 though. Not sure if that was the one talked about, but the only one any of us locals have heard of.
