| I am looking to get a new muskie rod for this up coming season. I am undecided between a seven foot medium heavy or heavy action rod, or maybe going with a longer rod this year. I like to work bucktails, topwater, and jerkbaits the most and i do occasionally twitch crankbaits. I guess i am looking for a good all around muskie rod. If anyone can help on this topic, it would be greatly apreciated |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | I like the 6'9" Premier or the 7'2" Premier both by St Croix. Falcon has a nice one also that I like, the 6'10" XXtra heavy, but that one might be a little heavy for twitch baits or bucktails. The 7'2" rod is Med/Heavy fast, the 6'9" is Heavy with a fast action... I checked out the St Croix rod selector feature on their website, they also list a 6'6" Avid as a general purpose rod, its med/heavy fast but an Avid is gonna run you some extra $$. | I would go for 7'6" or 6'9" Heavy action, or Medium Heavy action. I have St. Croix Premier musky rods that are great, and I also like the Bass Pro Shops Pete Maina rods if you need something less expensive.

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Go with the 7'6" St Croix MH. It's the best all around rod for the money IMOP. The only thing you can't really do well with it is finess twitching small jerks. For everything else you posted it should be great. Longer rods= longer casts, easier figure 8's, and better hooksets. Go long! |

Location: Eagan, MN | Muskie Treats beat me to it. The 7'6" St. Croix Premier would be tought to beat. It has a lot of power for a stick rated as MH. If you are looking to spend a little more, consider a 7 1/2 to 8 foot Thorne Bros Diamondback in their heavy bucktail action. Good call on going with a longer rod. The shortest rod in my rotation this year will be 7'4". |

| 10-4 on the 7`6" st. Croix, I would say a MH if fishing superlines. That will be an all around combo, throw that myself. |

Location: St Cloud, MN | Like the rest of these guys i am a big St. Croix fan, but i was in Gander over the weekend and their guide series of muskie rods were pretty impressive for only $80. also one of the few lower price point rods that dare to make a rod longer than 7' 6"(they have a MH 8'). not to big of an investment or wait till a sale you can get $10 or $15 off!

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Dont leave out the possibility of a Gander IM8 Pro Select. Great rod for about $70.00. The Pro Select does come in a 7' and 8' sticks.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | If you dont mind spending a few extra bucks for a little higher quality rod, check out the 7'6" Lamiglas rods. IMHO they have a better feel to them overall, and do have a longer handle (which is important to me), but they are a bit more expensive. |

| Take a look at one of the Bass Pro Maina Series rods. A variety of actions at a decent price. I just ordered the 8'6" and it feels great. They have some in the 7'2" to 7'6" range that would probably be good for what you plan on using it for. |

| Do yourself a favor and check out all stars and fig rigs. All stars are about the same price as the st croix, and the figs are a bit more but a nice rod.

| Just found this site and boy is it awsome. also am looking for another Musky rod and found this thread. Talked to a St Croix rep yesterday at J&J sports in Lake Tomahawk Wi and he showed me some of there rods. Really liked the 7'6 and the 8' premier sticks. I will most likley get one of the two. Are the Pete Mania rods at Bass pro any good? Don't know anyone who uses them.  |

Location: Pound, WI | I'll second Slamr on the lamiglas rods. Don't get me wrong, I like my St. Croix's just fine and they are made here in Wisconsin, but my Lamiglas 7' is the first rod I reach for.

Location: syracuse indiana | i have the pete maina signature series from basspro they are awsome. i have a 8 1/2 ftr and a 8 ftr and a 7 1/2 mh rod and reel sets. they really are worth the money. and will throw anything u can put on the end of the line. the 7 1/2 will dofor the magnum dawgs even and with the mh that has a softer fast action tip on it. it really makes action on the lures look great. they will do exactly what pete says it will. good backbone too plenty of power and the longer rods make figure 8's less backbreakin and soooo swwweeettt to do. |
