Location: Troy, Oh. | I have been thinking about trying single hooks on some of my smaller hard baits and maybe a couple bucktails and swim baits. My thought is single hooks work on spinnerbaits. I'm thinking would need to go up in size so the gap on the single is about as big as the width of the treble. Any thoughts or experiences? I already file all barbs off and have removed the middle hook on some cranks. Makes it quicker and easier to untangle the bait from the fish and net. Also removing a hook from my hand, have done that a couple times. Once at the ER and once in the boat. That's one of the reasons none of my baits have barbs any more. |

| Eagle tails have big single hooks and I've got fish on them. I like the fact that a single point is driven with all the hook setting power. If you look at saltwater cranks most of them are single hooks, think I remember Joe Bucher talking about switching out trebles with singles for improved landing percentage in salt water. Worth an experiment.

Location: Brighton CO. | I know of guys who complain about the lack of hook ups on Eagle Tails, I've never caught a Muskie on my Eagle Tails but I've sure cut up many of singles on my Spinnerbaits. Fish just hooked in the lower jaw and would not come out. Living out west I catch a lot of Trout on Mepps and I make singles out of trebles and pinch down the barb. I'll catch more fish them the guy close to me and if he catches one it takes forever to get the hooks out and I'll two or three while he's unhooking his fish. I don't like to eat Trout so they all go back. |

I also ran a super shad rap on a downrigger with the inline hooks and losing a fish and using a grandma with singles and my buddys with trebles took a hit while mine with singles hasn't yet.
I definitely think they are safer, there are these saltwater guys I listen to for some advice who recommend them and something else they said was a better hook up ratio. A downside is from what i remember reading is the placement on trebles is specifically designed to help imitate a wounded fish
