I've yet to muskie fish this season, but I'm thinking about hitting the Horseshoe chain (launch out of Cedar Island) with a friend this next Tuesday. I was out there once a couple years ago, and the lake was pretty green with no action.
Does anyone know much about the lake, what works, when and maybe where to try, or if the chain has even been worth fishing recently?
Thanks in advance. | |

| Been many moons since i've fished the chain. When I did I enjoyed it with all the lakes contained within the chain it's self. I can imagine it's gotten quite busy since I was there. I look forward to the reply's you get and your report on how you do. Whats the target species? | |

Fished the lake yesterday for six hours in the morning (5:45am - noon). No clouds and pretty warm, but the lake averaged 73F water temp. Pretty green water like the last time I was out there too, and barely any breeze.
I fished a glide and got one mid 20s pike on it, and then I caught a 30.5in pike on a mid-size swimbait; both hit when the bait was suspended and not moving in maybe 6ft of water. My fishing buddy was messing with his reel, his bucktail was sitting two feet under the surface, and the boat was in 22ft of water, and a little pike smoked the bucktail while he was messing with the reel. Pretty crazy eat and it definitely confused us. 22ft of water, two feet under the surface not moving, and a little northern hunts it down?
We had one follow that came as we were moving spots. I had the trolling motor on full going maybe 2.5mph to the next spot, and my buddy just tossed this big spoon behind the boat and dragged it along. As we get to the spot and he stands up to reel in and cast, he sees what he estimates to be a low 40s fish follow his spoon in. This encounter occurred over a huge 6-8ft flat area with decent weed growth.
My friend also managed to catch a 17ish inch walleye in about 6ft of water with that same spoon, moving it pretty fast. A lot of weird encounters for one outing. | |
