| A friend's 14-year-old son is just getting started in musky fishing and asked me what "cheap" lures I would recommend. His dad is a fisherman but not for musky. The kid is on a pretty tight budget. I am going to give him some suggestions along with gifting him a few lures. Maybe some of you have a few smaller to medium size favorites that would be good for a kid just getting started that I am not aware of, lures under $25. Thanks in advance for any help. |

| Currently he has a medium heavy 7' rod with an older C3. He is getting something newer very soon for his birthday. I suggested getting a $100-150 rod like a Daiwa, Shimano or Okuma in MH or hvy., 8-8'6" I recommended spending at least $150 on a reel with a medium or "all purpose" gear ratio. I told his dad to take him to the musky shop in Minocqua and the guys there will show him what's available and what they recommend. |

| Another good source is Marketplace. Maybe because I live in northern WI where musky fishermen are more common, I see a lot of musky equipment for sale on Marketplace, well below new prices. |

| Any small bucktail. Put it on and cast his arm off and he will catch fish. Mepps, Bucher, showgirl, etc. |
