Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I’m shipping a broken rod to the manufacturer in the original tube (cut shorter now that it’s broken) and ups is $90. What are some ideas to ship more inexpensively? |

Location: Brighton CO. | You can try United States Post Office, a regional smaller shipping company, or even go talk to the airlines they have shipping divisions. If you live off the beaten path try shipping from the nearest big city. |

Location: West Central WI | Check with the manufacturer. Sometimes they will accept cuts from either side of the break - like at the break each side plus a few inches (ask how much). This is usually all that's needed to determine the reason for the failure. If they allow that, you can cut with a Dremel and ship two small pieces. Also, wrap masking tape a couple wraps where you're going to cut and cut through the tape. That prevents splintering. FYI, only 5% of rod failures are due to defects and happen shortly after the rod is put into service. That leaves the other 95% due to misuse or accident. I don't know where you need to send, but if it's in the Midwest, check with Spee-Dee Delivery. It's a Midwest regional delivery service with good rates. https://speedeedelivery.com/
If you aren't allowed to do what I suggested, be advised that for rod builders who ship frequently, the rate you were quoted is probably correct.
Good Luck! |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I just shipped two 7’2” rods (8’6” collapsed) from IL to WI for $10 with speedee. No way I would use another company for rod shipments. |

Location: West Central WI | Those of us within the Spee Dee delivery area are fortunate to have them. USPS, FedEx, and UPS all have length restrictions and charge more. Spee Dee seems to be more personalized service. |
