| I've got an Abu Veritas 2.0 7'9" H 5/8-3oz rod that I really like for throwing single 8s when I need a break from the big stuff. It's pin-point accurate with little effort, but want something just a tad heavier and maybe longer. I have a Sling Blade for bigger stuff and absolutely love it, so I'm leaning towards the Legend Tournament line.
Seems like I'm between the Lipstick and Top-n-tail, but I'd appreciate some thoughts. Mojo isn't out of the question, I have two of their bass rods. And it'd be a bonus if I could double use this for big swimbaits back home in Missouri for bass.

Location: Western U.P. | There's not much difference between the 2 LT rods, and both would work well for what you've described, including throwing swimbaits for Bass. The TnT is proven, has been around for a long time, and is a GOOD blank. I've built A LOT of rods on TnT's from their stock length up to 8'6", and they've all performed well. The Lipstick II is a newer model, and wouldn't be surprised if it was constructed as a longer TnT, or a shorter Long Ranger. Either way, it'll be a pretty good blank, and work well for what you're looking for. It will also allow you to cast a larger range of lure weights, since it's rated up to 4 oz. Your choice will come down to which length do you prefer, or may work better for you, and is that extra 1 oz rating needed. Picking up a TnT now, and a Lipstick II down the road (or vice versa) wouldn't be a bad thing either. You can't have too many rods. | |
