Have a Garmin up front. Relatively new model. Having a couple issues with it.

1) Each time I start my big motor - the graph powers down and powers back on. Will occasionally randomly do this even without the big motor turning over. But it happens each and every time I start my big motor. This makes me go through the entire set up process each time it starts up then. Selecting language, safeties, the whole nine yards.

2) The graph no longer seems to be able to find me on the GPS. It shows where I am at - but the lake contours, nor the lake, even show up anymore. Do I just need an update?

Problem 1 is due to insufficient voltage. It can be due to undersized wiring or a weak battery. 95% of the time, it is inadequate wire size. Run 10 awg direct to the cranking battery and that should solve your issue if the battery has sufficient charge to start the outboard most of the time.

I would do a hard reset on the garmin and see if that fixes your issue.

Ryan is correct on the graph powering down. If you run wire directly from the graph to the battery, make sure to have an in-line fuse on the positive wire.
