When's the best time to buy a boat (new) or does it really matter? Do MFGs and Dealers have inventory that they will reduce price on if they haven't sold a boat when the next year model comes out?

Also, if I see a price on a MFGs build your own boat page, how much can I expect to pay if I actually purchase it at a dealer (same, 10% off, 20% off etc).

Well, have gotten several ads from Lund dealers claiming big savings on 2023 boats. I own an older Lund, maybe that is why I got the ads online. Prices quoted were quite a bit lower than a fishing buddy paid for a 2024 back in February. Mercury laid off 300 workers at the home plant this summer because of slow sales.

Dealers are actually sitting on massive inventory. If you see a boat thats been on the lot more than a year they will take almost anything to move it.

I think the end of the calendar year (like the 4th quarter, late fall or even December) is the best time to buy a new boat. As already mentioned, there are current yearly models sitting in inventory and the dealers generally want to make room for the new year's versions that will be coming.

I took advantage of this way back in December 2015 when I bought my new boat. Discounted overall cost, free upgrades. Living in MN, I obviously had no reason to take it until the following spring so I actually paid for it in December and gave them 4 months to rig it. They kept it inside all winter for me until I picked it up.

Just last year, my friend was looking at a 2023 Lund Adventure series boat. In March, it was listed at over $50k fully rigged. By September, the exact same boat was listed at $38,500.

The other thing about a fall purchase is that the dealership is looking at the carrying costs for over the winter. That is why they will give you a deal on the boat and store it until spring. If it is on their inventory, they have interest accruing. Better to sell and store.

For what it's worth-In May our local Starcraft dealer was marked down 2-8K on all 2023 models and was willing to haggle on all accessories

I just bought a new Ranger 621 and I got the best price I had seen advertised for comparable boats by about $6,000. I take delivery Saturday. I may refinance if the rate comes down, but the dealer beat my local credit unions by more than 2%

Do most Boat Dealers negotiate on a listed price. If so, how much do you think the generally go down (percentage)?

Most dealers are incentivized by volume of sales. They pay a certain percentage of the MSRP per quarter to have the boat on the lot. Profit is really generated by moving units, hitting manufacturer incentives, not the margin on individual sales. As a general rule if a boat is on the lot 18 months the dealership has already eaten the costs and just wants to see it move.

I bought a boat. It's a 2022 Lund Angler 1650. So, get ready for some more dumb questions...

First thing to learn is what BOAT actually stands for:

Break
Out
Another
Thousand

Good luck with your new rig

Boats are cheap compared to kids.

Get rid of your kids and the money flows like water.

I spoke with Bass Pro (Bridgeport, CT) about a new 1 last week.

Interest rates are 9.1%. 8.6% if your FICO 8 score is above 800. I'm well above it.

Still astronomical rates for now

Do the math, compare loan for loan, down payment, trade etc. @9% and 5%. Mine is 4.24%, so I opted to keep it. It came to almost a $300/month difference!!
Happy fishing!!!

So you are looking to finance a 100k boat? A friendly tip to all if you need to finance a boat doesn’t really matter if it’s 8% or 4%…. go talk to a good financial advisor first, boat payment’s?…not a good life decision, only possible exception is if your boat is required for your job (guide, tournament angler)

If I didn't finance my boat I would have no fun at all. I'm a big saver and a cheap ass but life ain't worth living if you don't do what makes you happy.

Had one of our engine manufacturers in the shop today. It is indeed a great time to buy boat, they are paying insane interest on unsold inventory. Buy a snowmobile while you're at it too, those could be had.

I received an email from Lund last night saying the following:

"If you’ve ever had your eye on a new Lund, you’ll want to visit your local dealer tomorrow to learn about the amazing deals available on select 2023, 2024, and 2025 models. Be sure to ask about the Promotional Price Promise** – ensuring that your deal is as good or better than any offered between today and Jan. 31, 2025.

Snag the savings before they’re gone. The Ultimate Flash Sale* ends Nov. 15."

Might be worth investigating if you're looking for a Lund.

EDIT: Here's the "small print"

-------------------------------
*Offer good through Nov. 15, 2024, and available only at participating dealers in the U.S. and Canada. Savings cannot be used as a down payment. Promotional savings can be combined with ONE of the following: Lund Military Discount, Student Angler Discount, or Everyday Hero Discount. Available on select models. Buyer is responsible for initiating a Promotional Price Promise claim if price improves before Jan. 31, 2025. See participating dealer for details.

** Promotional Price Promise – If a larger discount is offered on a model you purchased between now and January 31, 2025, please visit your local dealer to claim a refund of the difference between the discount you received and the larger discount. See dealer for additional details.
