Ok,anyone ever see or hear or this problem before?Yesterday I pulled one of my 6600 c5's out to get it ready for a upcoming trip.I wiped it down a bit, checking it out a little.I started to crank on the handle a little.Put it on one of my rods.Started to do the big ol I got one trick.Well when I cranked then stop like I had that 70 #er,the spool kept spining with out the handle, making a clicking noise.I looked at it like what the.....I thought I was seeing things. So I gave the handle a good wirl, put my finger in to stop it and the spool kept spining making that clicking noise again. The reel will do this almost every time?Anybody ever see this before? Is there some part that I need to buy to fix this? Will ABU take these back or GanderMountain where I bought it?Maybe this is the reason that these reels where replaced by the D5's? Thx,for the help

Nothing is wrong with your reel! All ABU's will do this, but don't worry as it is not a defect. The way that the spool pinion gear is on ABU's it allows this to happen and they have found that this actually increases the live of the gears. With even a little preasure on the spool from a lure it will never happen. You will never experiance this while fishing and even if you did it is nothing to worry about. I believe that some of the Shimano's will also do the same thing.

What's happening is a result of the helical cut gears. It's actually driving the pinion grear away from the spool against the spring. Kinda like a ratcheting action. Pretty harmless as reelman stated.................

If this really bothers you you can remove the right side cover and you will see a black piece with two spring steel "fingers", just ben them down a little bit more so that there is more preasure on the pinion yoke.
