I believe I have a fuel pump going bad on my 50 hp Evinrude outboard. It's a 2 stroke, either 96 or 97. I'm trying to order the part online but can't quite find the exact part number. I'm finding lots of 438556, but mine is 438557. Think I could use the 438556? I wondered if it was just a newer version possibly, as it looks very much the same. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It looks like one gets the pulse via hose and the other gets pulse through hole in the back? Does your fuel pump have 2 or 3 hoses attached?

You may want to check the fuel check valve just above the tank. In 96 I spent $300 plus on a fuel pump just to discover it was a fail backflow valve in the fuel system. Engine would run when you pumped the bulb then quit when fuel pressure was lost.

Ok thanks, I will look into that in the morning. That's exactly what it's doing. Hopefully that's it. I did finally find the correct part as well. Thanks for the info.
