Early Spring?

Today for the first time this year, we have swans in the open channel across the lake. We often see them in February, but this is a couple weeks earlier than normal. They are tough birds and if it gets too cold, they will turn around and go south but I wonder if it might mean an early spring.

Yes looks like early spring .
I heard a small group of cranes flying over the south suburbs of Chicago this morning heading north.
My son in Michigan said he saw about 10 Robbins in his yard today.
Seams like a month early. And I'm ok with it.

LOL, yeah predicting early or late spring at this stage is a fool's errand but it is always interesting to note those things that are uncommon, like the swans and robins so early.
I was out hiking on what is normally a snowmobile trail today and something different is that there is very little snow in the woods so when you have a sunny morning like today the bare ground heats up and holds that heat, as opposed to snow covered ground which reflects the sun.

We haven't had much of a winter here at all, maybe 5-6 days? I'm worried about the lack of snowpack and the spawning grounds that are going to be high and dry this spring.

We had rain for Christmas, some bitter cold then lots of 50's and 60's during the day, rain last Friday night and Saturday morning then turned to heavy March like snow, now a rain shower last night with 30% chance of rain today. Lots of snow at the ski resorts.

Our 10-day forecast is showing a lot of single digits at night, there's a long way to go yet unfortunately.

One can only hope still. Right now got some beautiful weather but it can still change. Wouldn’t mind hitting camp earlier this year.

Fake winter. El nino.

Winter was about 10 days long so far in mid January here. I received 3 inches of rain on Christmas which is the water equivalent of about 3 feet of snow, so we're fine on moisture (just lacking snow).

Temps do look like they are going to drop to more "seasonable" averages next week. Still no snow makers on the horizon though.
