I have gotten 4 e-mails today...2 of which from people I know from the boards. Muskygirl2000 (Karen D) and fishingfool(Paul L).

all 4 had a really strange message and an attachment....one was a screen saver that i didnt open, the others I didnt look at the attachment..just deleted promptly.
One was even from my old job e-mail that hasnt been active in over a year.
the 4th I didnt recognize

what gives..maybe I have the virus? I have an anti virus thinger (i think)

The beagle, aka- bagle virus has been going around for quite a while now. The name attached (email address) just means someone with the virus had that person in their address book.

zip & exe files are often infected. Don't blindly download attachments and you'll be OK. Using a server with virus scanning works well (I use earthlink's) as they catch it before your email client opens anything.

Not sure if all will be able to access this or not but it is a free online virus scan from Norton. Should be worth a shot. http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym...

Could the Virus be related to the "Server Problems" post? Couldn't a virus slow your computer way down? Just a thought, I don't even want to know too much about puters.

You are probably getting the w.netsky@ virus. The virus will pick out names out of someones contact list and automatically send out an infected file with it's SMTP engine. So when you get an infected file from someone it probably actually came from a different person. Keep your virus scanner updated, Norton, McAfee and Panda will catch it before it infects your computer. Set your antivirus program to scan all the time!

Yup- I got one from [email protected] - Pretty funny. Of course it could have came from Duck . ->

I'm a social butterfly and a natural flirt. Very hard to get my

ROFLMAO

Had a zip attachment also- Marie-Anne.zip - it got deleted w/o opening so it never made it to my HD.

Update your virus checker and NEVER open a unexpected Email. Now if it had been from ToddM I would have expected it. LOL.

All these viruses are why I usually don't post my e-mail addy or at the very least use the one from my ISP. Yahoo and hotmail are good alternate choices.

BTW, here is another free online virus checker:

FF, not to worry. Your e-mail addy must be in with Gregger's in somebody address book that got the virus.

Be funny if Gregger had the virus, and sent it to himself!

Plitzzz,
Can't remember sending you anything, e-mail or otherwise. Have scanned my puter and it shows up clean, no virus at all. Don't understand how this happened but I'm sorry that it did. Will update on line and see if anything is there that shouldn't be.Once again , don't know how this happened, new puter and now I'm puzzled. You are not in my address book and I have only sent 2 or 3 e-mails since I got this new unit. Any thoughts on how this happened cause I really don't know.

Mauser, don't worry about it.I understand how these viruses work. You are in ToddM's book,I am in Todds book,Todds name is in ?so on.......and so on...... The E-mail was probaly "spoofed".Meaning the E-mail says it was sent by you but never was.The virus picked your name off of someones list of names.

I've been getting infected e-mails for more than a week. I don't find anybody's e-address that's familiar from the boards, but the one address that they all have in common is [email protected]. Anybody know who that is? 7 e-mails that were stopped, but when I check the message origination, that name is present on all of them.

I just got an infected email from [email protected] it was the netsky that muskiemedic spoke of. Norton caught it before I opened it though. weird breed of people getting kicks out of writing these things. When they catch them they oughta make them register like they do for sexual offenders so you knew who they were. Anonymity is what gives these people power.

my virus scan did not pickup the bagle virus..I needed to use the STINGER that Tyler Campbell posted on the other virus thread.
That virus scan will pick it up, it hides itself so I highly rcommend you run the Stinger.

muskyalan, I got the KLEZ from you this morning.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, know it is not being done intentional, just want to point out what is happening with everyones e-mail so they can clean things up.

Funny thing is that my buddy just received an email from me yesterday and I received one from myself today. Both had Mary.exe as the attachment. The scary thing is that I run a Mac and I can't open .exe files plus most viruses won't affect Macs like PC's. My guess is that someone's PC is infected and is sending out the message as if I sent it. It must be using that person's address book and randomly sending emails out that have those people in their address book.

catch ya later,
Krappie

I don't think your e-mail could be picked up just by posting, chances are your e-mail address was in someone elses address book as was Greg's thus how it got sent to Greg. I think one of the bigger things is if you are running Win XP you are more susceptible to getting viruses. I ran Win '98 for about 2 years without a problem, upgraded to a new computer and Win XP PRO in December, only had 1 virus on Win '98 in those two years, I've had about 6 since december either stopped by the antivirus software or fixed by it after getting infected.

Greg:
The email you got is not from who you think it is from. It is from an infected computer that has muskyalans' e-mail address. The e-mail looks like it came from one person but really didnt. Just make sure to keep your virus updates current. Klez virus is relatively old and should be caught.

OK, I'll say this one more time. DO NOT get mad at the person you THINK sent you a virus. DO NOT accuse that person, or send them nasty e-mails. There is a 100% probability that virus came from a different user. You are a victom merely by being in that person's addy book with everybody else. Simple as that.

I've gotten at least ten notifications from my ISP of removed attachments this week alone. This latest version of the virus is sneakier than the klez, as I'm not able to determine who it actually came from. So, I just delete. Also, NEVER, EVER, open an attachment, unless you know what it is, who it is from, and especially, if you don't have anti-virus and current definitions.

Gregger, do you not have anti-virus software? And if so, are the definitions up to date? If not, you can get it on-line. I use Norton Anti- Virus, and have never been infected. I update definitions daily. Cheap insurance.

www.grisoft.com; download the free version of the AVG Antivirus, set it to scan email and do a full system scan every nightlate, and you are protected for an investment of $0. Sue's 'puter and my laptop are protected by that software. My office 'puter has a fancy anti-virus program called Panda Platinum.
