Location: Carol Stream, IL | When you are fishing a TOPWATER bait and you get a blow up and a miss, but the fish never touches the bait so you think it's still catchable, what bait have you caught fish on by throwing it back at the fish?

| I like to throw a twitchbait or a frantic moving jerk/glider. Trying to emulate the look of something that got hit and is having trouble getting away.

| Hog Wobbler or a creeper like Laura's Creepinstein. Slow moving and in their face.Lots of movement, but not covering much ground. If the fish is active, which I assume it is since it just blew up on another bait,a slow deliberate presentation has been my #1 throwback option. Steve |

| Bull Dawg, Lindy Tube, or Cobra Jig worked really slowy contrasting the fast moving top water. If that doesn't work then I would try a Reef Hawg or Slammer Drop Belly Glider as a last resort. If that doesn't trigger a strike then I would leave the spot and come back under better conditions (wind shift, pressure drop, lower light, night, etc.) and try again.
I have learned that if you have a hot follow on a topwater, figure eight the topwater one, two or three feet down and see if that works. I have taken a number of fish with Top Raiders on the first, second or third figure eight.

I think that sometimes SIZE has more to do with it than anything. I just seem to have better luck with smaller baits than 12" Bulldogs as a throw back bait.

| Usually a 8 reef hawg or a crane. But as of the last fall I was having good results with the super stalker.

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I am in the Jonesi camp on this one. A creeper worked unbelievably slow right behind the blow up. Make sure you wait for the fish to get it before you set the hook though, it is an unnerving way to fish. |
