| After clearing snow from my driveway this morning, went for a walk and saw a very early sign of spring. Pair of swans on the open channel between Moen Lake and Second Lake. Lot of winter left here in Oneida County, but the swans are a sign that it will end. Checked our bird book and this is the second time in three years that saw the first ones on Feb. 28. |

| We've got trees budding out already, which is not normal for this time of year. I know we've had some pretty good snowstorms and single digit temps into April in years past but I'm looking at having to get the lawn mover out already. Used the snowblower twice this winter, shoveled once. Not complaining about that, but it sure is not like the winters we used to have. |

Location: Brighton CO. | We've had a lot of snow this winter here in the front range of Colorado. (witch is a good thing) Eight days ago we had a couple days where the high was 13- 14 degrees and dipped below zero at night. Since then we've had some days 50's or upper 40's. As of today the last of the snow in my front yard melted away. I still have some in the back yard. And for the record when I look out the front window I'm looking west. As a couple days ago my sister who has a home on the North side of the street still was covered in three inches. Today was upper 40's low 50's with a cold wind but there's a inch of snow in the forecast for tomorrow. March is our snowiest month but it warms between snows. The last four weekends have been in the 50's counting tomorrow we've had four Wednesday's with snow. I should be able to go cast at the pond in my town and with lent go find a fish fry. And in five weeks the Hockey playoff's start. We get some late season snow too. |

Location: PA Angler | It’s been warm out of my neck of the woods. Reached 70* a couple days already. No snow at all pretty much all winter seems like it’s a mild one for us. Already hear the spring birds, flowers are coming up, and also saw one them woolly bear caterpillars which is supposed to be completely frozen and thaw in spring. Already did some yard work. Thinking of getting the fishing gear out. |

| Record "moisture equivalent" for winter (Dec - Feb) this year in the Twin Cities. That's rain plus snow. Temps have definitely not been near average though. Only 10 nights below zero and the average is 21.
I won't complain after the drought we had last summer/fall. Just what the doctor ordered. |

Same here, any moisture is welcome, though I do wish we had gotten more snow and less freezing rain. But, better than no moisture. And I don't miss subzero temps one bit. |

Location: Brighton CO. | They had a story on the news that 20 years ago we had 31" of snow in Denver between 17-19 March, At the time I lived in Aurora CO (eastern burb) and we had 40" at my home and my parents lived in the foothills west of town and got over 6' .
We had quite a bit of snow this winter real quiet his spring, March is usually our snowiest month. 50's all week. |

| When I originally posted this thread back on 2/28, fully expected the swans would be gone within a week. That is the normal pattern. However, this morning, 3 weeks later, still have a pair in the open water channel across from our home. Kind of discouraging. I am old and have been through lots of late springs, in particular when living in the Lake Superior snowbelt of the U.P., but I still get antsy for bare ground and open water come the later part of March. Guess that will never change. |

| Raging blizzard yesterday continuing all day today.Roads closed(including Interstate 29)and zero travel.Our machine shed collapse due to snow a few weeks ago means my tractor with attached blower is outside.Humbling to watch it slowly disappear under a drift.With luck we'll get out in 2 days.Moved here 20 years ago and this is by far the coldest and snowiest since arriving. |

Location: NW WI | Past 2 weeks we've been bouncing in-between snow shovels and blowers over to square shovels,chisels,axes, and pickaxes and sand for ice build up melt drainage-Just to go back to snow removal again. Yup pretty typical N.Wisconsin first sign of spring.
Also saw a single pelican waaay up high on Saturday, must've gotten off course in the last snow storm maybe. |

| Typical Spring day here in WI. Was 55 degrees at 9:00 AM when we left S. Milwaukee, and 39 degrees when we arrived back in Rhinelander a little over 4 hours later. Flocks of robins down there, more geese up here on the river. We have had much colder winters, snowier winters but one nasty thing we had this year were a number of freezing rain events. The Antigo Rehab center took in dozens of barred owls who were found on the ground, so weak they can't fly. They depend on finding mice under the snow but can't get through the layers of ice and are starving. First time in the center's history they have large numbers of owls like that. |

| Ice just went out on the big pond/lake/duck slough behind my house, on Monday. Migrators started showing up yesterday. Sat on the deck tonight, and watched skeins of buffleheads, mallards, woodies, mergansers, gadwals, and wigeons, zooming in and out like fighter jets. Heard a loud ruckus on the water, and saw a couple swans trying to take off from the water. Watched 5 deer nibbling twigs off of all the big limbs that came down in the yard from the heavy snow storm a little over a week ago. One of the neighborhood pileated woodpeckers came swooping onto the suet feeder. Seems like spring just exploded here. Had our first 50 degree day, 7 days ago. Had our first 60 a couple days later, first 70 a couple days later, our first 80 yesterday, and it was 90 in my yard today. Freakin' crazy. Going back the other way with highs in the 40s this weekend. |
