I've never owned one...looking to add one to the arsenal. Desiring opinions on brands, models and sizes... And...for this thread, let's say cost tops out at $70.
What's out there everyone? |

Location: NW WI | Welp, get one. They're not a cover water quick bait obviously. I personally own the Chaos version, non grapple smitty, jointed hawg Teaser boss Hawg, and the Cats Tail rat thing. Of those the Chaos is the only one I'd consider a "true" flaptail. That being said, for me anyways, they really shine in high pressured watered on calm mornings and evenings. If I were to buy a readily available model right now though, it's a tie between Bombsquads C4 and Lee's metal series. |

Location: Germantown, WI | I own two of them and really like fishing them , especially near dark. But I have to force myself to slow down and not go to fast.... once you find the right sound/rhythm of the tinks and clinks.... it gets easier to reproduce!
I own a larger TR Custom and a smaller one- Bombsquad C4... both are nice, but I prefer the Bombsquad one a bit more- only thing that annoys me is the spreader bar for rear hooks tends to move and shift.... |

| Bombsquad is my preference. For the guy above, you must have a older mode,l they have new spreaders for them that are easy to install and work great. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | All the way back to the best, a Snodlow, and a few handmades I fished I named Dog Turds. Search it, it's in the system. I think the stinger I made for those hooks up better than the two-hook spread, but that's me. |

| Bombsquad for sure. All the newer ones have the better spreader bar that doesn't move. They are loud and make a hell of a wake.
They are very well built and paintjob is extremely durable with heavy coats of epoxy.
Get one you won't be disappointed.

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | Bombsquad for sure, I have one of the older ones with the original hook hanger that I’d sell to you if you wanted to drive to Minneapolis. Best sound for the money I think, not insanely expensive like some of the boutique ones but built like a tank. |

| It was mentioned but For the bombsquads flap if you have the old spreader model you can get the new spreader design and install it on your bait. I personally have a C4 and it is really loud and pushes a ton of wake. You can reel it slow or pretty fast for a flaptail. I haven’t caught any fish on it but it will definitely get noticed. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Smitty makes a model very close to the Snodlow with the correct tail hardware for a real flaptail. The metal hardware makes a difference. A swivel takes out a large part of the footprint that bait was regionally famous for. |

Location: Brighton CO. | I have a old High Finn somewhere and one made by Moore's tackle too, but I have three of the Smitty's one 7" reg, one 5" reg, and a 7" with hook spreaders. On a note Russ put a metal washer on the back of the last two I bought as sound making devise.
I took them off (with the washer I could not get the tail piece to do as much) I also like the Smitty Scuttle Bug (a giant Jitter Bug) except it can take beating of a big Muskie. |

| Interesting thread. I like topwaters but have never had a flap tail. Think it sounds like something I should try. |

Thanks. I was thinking that might be the case. |

Depends on the size of the flaptail. I use an XH predator at times and a big nasty for smaller ones. |
