| Hi All,
I am planning my first trip to Canada, and I have picked out to go to the Lake of the Woods in Ontario. With that being said this body of water is huge, and with so many resorts to stay at I have no idea where to start. I would be looking for a Cabin that can sleep 4 people for a week.
I am a die hard muskie fisherman from MO but I am also taking some people people that don't have the patience to chase after one fish for numerous days, so with that being said a part of the lake that might hold Northers, Muskies and Walleyes would be great.
I do plan on hopefully hiring a guide for a half/full day for muskies.. I am looking to go July 29 - Aug 5 or posibly a week later depending on my work/family schedule. I am taking my own Boat...

| I really enjoyed a trip I took to Tomahawk Resort. Very nice cabins, great docks and nice fish cleaning station if you are keeping any fish.

Location: Kansas City MO | I've stayed at Sunset lodge on Oak Island for 8 years running. Fantastic facility and staff! Many have become my friends. Short boat ride from Young's Bay with a ton of water to explore. |

| LOTWs lodge, however I will say they are under new management since my last trip.Greg Thomas also guides out of there during the summer now. It is in a great location on the lake, and I really enjoyed staying on the island. |

Location: Brighton CO. | It's been almost 30 years since I was at LOTW but we stayed at Red Wing Lodge and they had boat rentals too.
fished both Sabaskong and Whitefish Bays. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Stayed at Sabaskong Bay Lodge this summer and it was great. This is an island resort in the middle of some of the best fishing. Great hosts, guide available, very helpful. |

You can. They will also pick you up and take you to the resort. Sunset lodge has 17ft Lund tiller boats with GPS for example. Guides will also come to the resort and pick you up. Forrest Husset was mentioned above he routinely picks up clients from Sunset as well. |

Just load your boat and drive to the dock.
I'll second Sabaskong Bay Lodge as a great location and lodge.
about a 5 or 10 minute- pretty easy boat ride to the Island from Morson area parking area.

Location: Brighton CO. | When we stayed at Red Wing the first day, Mike the owner sat down with everyone individually and marked all the hazards that were not on the maps and some land marks to get back to camp safely. And how to find a buoy and get the numbers off and plug it into your map. (29 years ago) |

Nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Get a good paper map, use it, and you will be fine. Main channels/ Travel routes are marked on map and bouy marked for safe travel. Follow. Go slow near shore areas or any where off main channels. There are some unmarked hazards that are scary. be careful, pay attention, Almost all mid lake hazards are mapped.
High or low water will make things more dangerous.

| I second Fisher's recommendation. Flag island and get ahold of Forrest Husett. It was a great place to stay. Forrest is awesome! |

Location: Blaine, MN | Red Wing has been a huge MI ally since the late 70's/early 80's. Great dock system and access to fishy water almost immediately. Just don't make eye contact with Anne on your way out fishing in the morning... the subsequent conversation will delay your trip at least 30 minutes!!!! |

Have you fished Vermilion or any other fairly large bodies of water with experience navigating with GPS? Since you have never been to Canada I'd make sure you have a guide the first day or two...most island camps will help you navigate from launch to their dock if you ask.. |

| Been fishing LOTW for some years now, stayed at many of the lodges, we found
Duck Bay Lodge to be one of the best, the food, the people, the service, great docks,
out of the wind, just a all around a great place.

Fish a section and learn it. Don't look at it as a big body of water. Resorts will be happy to mark spots. The only thing is finding algae free areas and it moves in and out with the wind and current. |
