Location: Northern Illinois | On most of my gliders I leave a split ring on and then I can interchange them to a solid wire leader with a loop on the end. I've got one glider though that doesn't dance quite as well as I think it should and I was wondering if tying the leader directly to the lure would make it perform better. Do you find it makes a difference, either better or worse, to use a split ring or not on gliders? |

Location: Brighton CO. | I have a lot of old Eddies where the lure comes with a build in leader from the factory. What I've done is open the screw eye remove leader (leader has no split ring or O ring form factory) Add solid O ring bend screw eye closed and I make my own leaders, Bend wire thru O ring and I have a leader with O ring. When Dave Dorazio owned Eddie bait he did to all his lures.
It helps and every lure is different so I've found myself trying different leader lenght's for each lure and how much water they soak up effects the action too. It can be a pain, But when it works hang on to your rod!

Location: NorthCentral WI | Maybe against popular opinion but no split ring on gliders for me. I have a combo dedicated to gliders with no swivel, just wire with a stay-lok snap works for me. |

| None for me. Just snag a small, pre-made leader from stealth and snap it to the bait and go. Never had an issue getting fish on phantom softails with that method.

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | I would recommend against attaching a split ring directly to a solid wire leader. I used to do that and ended up losing a $60 glider that was working amazingly that day because the single strand worked its way under the splint ring and ended up coming off. I always put a solid ring on the leader then put the split ring on that solid ring. For gliders I just put a solid ring on both ends and split ring to the bait. Although if I’m using a hellhound I use a normal leader with a swivel because i don’t think it makes much difference with them |

Location: Brighton CO. | Baits like a Hell Hound its' easy to get them to walk the dog for me on my gliders I want them to walk then break off stall do this do that then if I want go back to walking the dog. Sure you'll catch fish walking the dog but if you can get them different things and look alive. I like the old wood gliders Eddie, Reef Hawg, and Cobb's Crazy Shad. |

| Split ring on all my gliders with solid wire leader and no snap. No issues and great success. |

Location: Northern Illinois | The brand and age of the split ring make a difference. When the rings become easy to open it's time to change them. Worth makes good ones as does VMC, though they are a little pricey. Wolverine triple rings are good but limited by their size. |
